I...am looking forward to seeing the JH & JO
Show on the big screen at the ISU Congress in Gnumden, Austria in September.

I am looking forward to seeing their show next week at the National
Stereoscopic Association (NSA) Convention!

Plus the show 'Caretaker 3D' by a couple local Los Angeles club members,
starring Dick Van Dyke, it won first place at the '6th Ever 3-D Movie/Video
Competition' and it's great.

I just heard from Jim Calverley, Fujifilm's Technology Marketing Manager,
he and two 3-D engineering product experts will be debuting Fujifilm's
3D Digital Camera system at the NSA Trade Fair.

Also speaking and presenting her new book - Stereo Sue:
Susan R. Barry was born cross-eyed. Surgery corrected their appearance,
but still left Susan stereo blind, and misdiagnosed as learning-disabled.
At age 48, Susan began optometric vision therapy and eventually gained control
of her stereo vision. Now a professor of neurobiology at Mount Holyoke College,
in Massachusetts. Susan Barry expresses the joy and the pain in her book,
Fixing My Gaze: A Scientist's Journey Into Seeing In Three Dimensions.

One final mention that the Stereo World Index (Volume 1#1 through Volume 34#3)
1974-2008 is available again (for all those who have asked.) It is available
from lulu.com for $20.00. check it out at:

Pauline Fredrickson was very active in the Photographic Society of America (PSA)
stereo division and had come down to judge several of our past SCSC
International
Exhibitions, but she unfortunately had been ill for some time.
She had been admitted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center last Tuesday.

Sad news came from her husband Ron Fredrickson, also a longtime PSA &
SCSC supporter and 3-D News subscriber yesterday, July 24th.

"My beloved wife, Pauline, passed away this afternoon."
"Early Wednesday morning I received a call from the hospital that she had been
transferred to intensive care, where she was receiving oxygen and IV solutions."
"Yesterday and today she was totally unresponsive, and today she had
failures of major organ systems, particularly lungs and heart...she passed away
at about 1:45 p.m."

In accordance with Pauline's wishes there will not be any funeral services.

G-Force is letterboxed within a 1.85 frame, but occasionally effects
(like explosions or fireworks) pop in front of the black letterbox bars
throughout the film. This seems to be a new effect, though the Toy
Story 1&2 double feature trailer before it did this with Buzz entering
the screen from the audience, I think. Anyone know of any articles or
reviews commenting on this? Every other Real-D film I've seen has
filled the screen.

I'm sure that a kind, positive, and "controlled" audience response to
this screening would help Tom convince LionsGate to give DARK COUNTRY a
somewhat decent theatrical release.

I certainly would like to see that happen. I'll be there in support.

Hello....

I am looking for a FAQ on what hardware/software to install, to view shutter
glass type 3D DVD movies on my computer. I have a modern dual core2 windows box
running Vista. My video card is a nVidia GeForce 880GTX. My monitor is a CRT
ViewSonic. I believe I need some hardware and perhaps some software. I would
prefer wireless shutter glasses if I can find them.

I have a wireless shutter glass unit for my TV. I don't have to tell anyone
here how bad it looks.

Any pointers to a FAQ, or hardware/software recommendations appreciated. Thanks
in advance.

Folks....
I have just read about a 3D attachment one can buy for your HD video
camera that will let you shoot in 3D HD.
The company is called "3D inlife". The product is called
SLN-828. Advertised as a
"outboard 3DDV lens":

html
Software is inclosed that will let you edit
play back your video in 3D. I suspect one can
choose which format. Will it save as field sequential?
Has anyone here used it or can post additional details?
I believe it is new and just rolling out. Now I can sop shopping for
a NuView attachment? :-)
Thanks
jack

I am saddened and shocked by this news.
I did not know he was sick.
Robin was one of SCSC's most brilliant 3D photographers
and his digital imagery was revolutionary.
I have a few of his images (from ISCC entries)
that I will bring to SCSC (but I will be a bit late..
leaving CSUN Northridge around 7 to go to Pasadena).

We should build a place of our website in memory
of past SCSC members and showcase some of their
images to remember and honor them.

Cheers,
Philip

Folks...

This is an update to my post on Nvidia's 3D Vision product and
playing field sequential DVDs.

After knocking on Nvidia's email door a few times, I was contacted by
a software engineer asking about field sequential movies. He cc'ed
his email to his hardware counterpart. I told them that if 3D Vision
were able to play FS DVDS "out of the box" it would be a nice turn
key solution. Or, if they added a page or two to the 3D Vision
manual taking about how to install 3rd party drivers in order to pay
FS movies, that also would be helpful. Third party
drivers/decoders/codecs here may work:

http://3dtv.at/Products/Player/DVDPlayback_en.aspx

They asked for a FS DVD to play with. I sent them a copy of "Spy
Kids Game Over" from Amazon. It is suppose to arrive soon. If I
receive any feedback from Nvidia, I will post it here.

Here is a link to Nvidia's 3D Vision product:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/3D_Vision_Main.html

3D Vision requires a CRT running at 100Hz or higher, or some 3D ready
LCD monitors, as well as Nvidia's video cards. Full requirements are here:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/3D_Vision_Requirements.html

Hi guys,

It's been quite a while since I made a post here.

Some of you may recognize my name, my "thing" is Aerial HyperStereo. My wife and
I live up in Monterey and are both pilots and I shoot stereo from our airplane.
We recently got back from a trip to the Grand Canyon and of course I shot a lot
of pictures. I've only had a chance to process a few of the 500+ pictures I took
and have put them on my website http://www.acmesi.com/stereo/

These are not all aerial or all of the Grand Canyon.

There is a good aerial shot of Hoover Dam, and several good aerial shots of the
lower canyon just above Lake Mead... and yes the river is that red down there..

I was also pleased to find that I could get a 100ft base line at many of the
lookouts on the ground so there are a couple of great shots from the ground of
the "big" part. I also shot some ground pictures of the Sinagua Indian cliff
dwellings east of Flagstaff, and on our way out of Flagstaff I shot some aerials
of the Red Desert.

I do have a good portion of the CA coast from Pismo to San Francisco and may
other places in CA on my site. I also process for parallel "Holmes Format"
images and some can be quite large files at 2100x4200.

I do have a favor to ask of anyone who still has access to the usenet newsgroups
and posts/reads alt.binaries.pictures.stereo... I was quite active there till I
lost my access when ATT quit carrying usenet newsgroups. Drop a note there
saying I do miss my old friends and that I'm still taking pictures.

If any of you care... we were flying at 9500 feet and flew up the first 1/4 of
the canyon.. the "seeing" over the canyon was superb but the weather was
starting to get chancy at Flagstaff so we turned and headed there earlier than I
planned... we didn't have plans to go all the way up the canyon since the
airspace over the "BIG" part is restricted below 14000ft and that's to high for
good aerial shots.

Subject: 3D Club Auction This Thursday!!!

Hi All,
Just a reminder that this Thursday, October 15, 7:30pm is our annual club
equipment auction.
You never know what you are going to find, but we can tell you in advance
(DDDavid is the Auctioneer),
that we have a bunch of stuff from one club member who is no longer with us, and
two Past Presidents
of the club who have retired, moved away, and have not been active in their 3D
film photography for many years.

So there will be lots of ORIGINAL Stereo Realist aluminum slide masks and other
assorted mounting supplies,
including several Stereo Realist Film Cutters. There are also some stereo
cameras (Realist vintage, 35mm),
viewers, a silver screen, stereo slide storage boxes, etc.

And, of course, if you have anything to bring, this is a good opportunity to do
so. Auction forms will be available
at the Armory. We suggest that whether you are buying or selling you come early
- either to enter your items to sell,
or to check out the stuff that is for sale.

Best to all, Susan and DDDavid

P.S. The club is getting 100% on the previously mentioned items. If you are
selling, the club gets 10% of the selling price
(unless you choose to donate more), and you may set a minimum reserve. Club
members may pay with checks.
Non-members should bring cash. All sold as-is. Let the buyer beware.

Where: Pasadena Armory Center for the Arts - Bring a friend!
Armory for the Arts, 145 N. Raymond Ave, Pasadena
(1 block east of Fair Oaks, 2 blocks south of the 210 freeway)
Free parking available in church parking lot - one block north

Monthly SCSC meetings are free and open to the public.

  Subject: [la3dclub] Fall 3-D Movie/Video Division meeting

The SCSC fall 3-D Movie/Video Division meeting has been scheduled for
Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 7:30 P.M. in the Downtown Independent Theater
(251 S. Main St., Los Angeles, CA 90013 - (213) 617-1033). We fell in love
with the Downtown Independent Theater when the Movie Division presented more
than two hours of 3-D content at the Downtown Film Festival - Los Angeles this
past summer. This little gem is ultra modern, has 200 stadium-style seats,
accommodates our silver screen and has a nice space just the right distance from
the screen for our club projectors. Other amenities include a snack bar which
includes the sale of beer and wine, convenient (paid) parking next door, and a
lovely rooftop patio area ideal for socializing and sharing the latest 3-D toys.
The Downtown Independent is a comfortable walk from the Pershing Square Metro
station (although trains stop running at midnight and Movie Division meetings
sometimes turn into "slumber parties".) Come into town early. There are plenty
of inexpensive eateries in the area, including a nearby Yoshinoya. There will
be a $5.00 theater entrance fee. Grab a coke, beer or a glass of wine and come
upstairs before the meeting. We'll try to start our meeting promptly at 7:30 in
order to accommodate Metro riders.
The meeting will have a Halloween theme. You are encouraged to bring
anything in 3-D you'd like to see projected on the big screen, but projectionist
Eric Kurland will try to put together some content with a "scary" theme for our
enjoyment. Wear makeup and/or a costume if you can. Prizes will be awarded.
Speaking of prizes, we will be announcing plans for our next international
competition ("The Seventh Ever") at the meeting, as well as sharing recent Movie
Division activities (participation in the Big Bear Lake Film Festival and
projection of Thomas Jane's directorial debut in his first 3-D feature, Dark
Country, at the Long Beach Comic Con.
You need not be an SCSC member to attend Movie Division meetings. All are
welcome. However, it is helpful if you RSVP your intention to attend so we can
plan such things as the number of 3-D glasses we need and how much popcorn and
drinks to have ready. (RSVP to movies3d@....)
  John Hart, Chairman
  3-D Movie/Video Division
  Stereo Club of Southern California
