Impossibly so, since 56K is 56000, at that's the maximum theoretical
speed you can get from V.90. Of course, in practice, you'll always get
much less than that unless you have an absurdly high quality phone line,
or live next door to your local exchange :)
Whoops my error! -- it's so long now since the halcyon
days of my old Pace Voice that I forgot precise
details.
Simon: who provides your phone line? I ask because it's a fact that the
Pace Solo V.90 code has problems with certain C&W lines - ones which used
compression. As a result, the Solo could only connect using V.34 (i.e. no
speed higher than 31200). I don't know whether that still applies to NTL
in general (or just ex-C&W areas).
phone line provided by Eurobell ( part of telewest??)
Also have installed the Kortex upgrade-- but the damn thing
still won't work in stand alone mode --- any ideas??
But, unless the above applies to you, it sounds more like a software
setup problem.
Could FreePPP have anything to do with it?? Otherwise
can't think what it could be.
I've even tried modem magic to no avail.
