Hello, is the ST80 Orion a good candidate for birding observations?   Message List

Re: [80f5] Hello, is the ST80 Orion a good candidate for birding observations?

Paul -

The ST80 is good for visual observations, but there is a little false color so I
would not recommend it for photography. As Leo says, a Right Angle Diagonal is
included and is not very friendly for birding. My 80f5  Celestron 80WA came with
45 degree diagonal and I use 100% of the time for terrestrial viewing.

You might look at the Celestron 80ED as an alternative. Color correction is much
better according to reviews I have read. People do use the Celestron 80ED for
birding. Orion also makes an 80mm ED scope too but I have seen no reviews on it.

You might check out the "digiscoping birds" group.
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/digiscopingbirds/ to see what scopes are
popular and affordable.

Good luck -
