while very true and acurate, bbs are pretty much dead and a nostalgic means of using computers and telecommunications, but i have yet to see any other means...

I think the main issue is the local nature of BBSing. That tended to hold groups together. Hell, we even went to skateworld for GT's, every Friday night....
