1) The "Advanced Imagery Library" does not currently support reading
individual Photoshop layers stored within TIFF or PSD files. You can
load a TIFF or PSD which was created with Photoshop, but the result
will be a flattened version of the file. I am currently looking into
adding the ability to read individual layers and will post about the
addition of such functionality if it is added.

2) TIFF does not support transparency. PNG supports 8-bit and 32-bit
transparency, and GIF supports 8-bit transparency.
