Excuse the pun "what goes around ...." but
this patent is Minto's wheel circa 1881.

The patent talks to the concept of the 'pulse-glass'
which is demonstrated in the following link.

Hi,
I thought that this link might be of interest to anyone receiving

Depending on your email user agent, it's actually quite easy to block
these things. In the latest version of Mozilla, pull down the Edit menu
and select Preferences. Expand the Privacy & Security heading, if
necessary. Select "Images". Turn on the switch labeled "Do not load
remote images in Mail & Newsgroup messages".

This is a good idea in general, as much spam (especially porno spam)
consists of relatively small pieces of HTML that load remote images off
the web that carry most of the ad.

Hi,

I'd like to know which amp or "speakers" work best during live perfomances? I have a korg EM-1 electribe and I'd just like to know which speaker monitor work best for it. I've never played live before but I'm starting to and I don't have an "amp" or whatever you call it for my korg EM-1. I'm looking for a small or light-weight gear that's maybe around $200 or under. New or used. I'm 19 years old and I don't have a car, I live in Glenn Dale, Maryland. That's why I need something small or light-weight gear so I can take it with me on the subway, busses, cabs, etc... any info from djs or "musicians" here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Start off with a pignose, it makes the most with the
least. Then put your money into buying a van, then get
yourself some good used sound equipment.
{The van keeps the equipment dry and securely under
lock & key....don't get a van with a window in the
roof, they leak! Or if ya do, pick one with the
sunroof up front, that way only YOU get wet, and not
the equipment.}
Ask other musicians in your area where to pick-up
used equipment really cheap. And don't be too
supprised if they direct ya to some weird guy with a
barnfull of stuff, who also does repairs on it too.
{Make this guy your best friend. With the bribe of a
six-pack or 2, he might even show ya how to hook up
the pignose to your van's battery for playing at
picnics and other such partys. If ya get him hooked up
with a girl, he might even hook up some solar panels
to your van and set ya up with a duel battery system,
so that ya can start up the van after the party too.}

Hello all.

I am trying to find a low temperature heat engine that will work with a
heat source temperature of 200 degrees Fahrenheit or less. Thus far, I
cannot find much. I did find one, which is quite interesting. It works
with liquefied CO2 as its medium. It's still in the prototype
stage. Here's the link: http://delugeinc.com/. I'd like to find something
that is on the market or is close to the market, is available in a size of
2 HP or bigger, and is at least comparable cost wise to solar PV once you
attach a solar collector and a generator to it. Does anyone know of such a
thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Ron Frazier

(Those of you who've seen what's below regarding patent storage, just
ignore it.)

For those of you that have not seen it. I am hosting a number of patent
storage areas on Yahoo based on suggestions from members of some energy
lists. These are freely available for anyone to post and retrieve patents
related to energy. You are invited to join if you wish. Please respect
any relevant copyrights when you post material. All group members may
access the files. Solar related topics are welcome.

Here is an update on the patent storage areas I am hosting.

Based on a request from a user, I have added 3 specific groups for the
storage of Tesla patent files. Please add new files for Tesla to this
area. Note, if you've already posted Tesla files in the energypatents
areas, you do NOT have to move them unless you choose to. I have placed
cross references between the energypatents areas and the Tesla areas.

If you'd like to see a specific group for a certain inventor, please write
me directly at rfrazier@.... The inventor should have at least 15
patents.

Here is the current status on my groups as of 02/12/03:

Hello Ron,
so what you want is >>> something
LOTs of PEOPLE (RE)SEARCH FOR...but it's not invented yet ..otherwise you would
have heard about it...
So, what comes more or less close to a heat engine with quite
high power performance is the engine of Mr. Takeuchi of Japan. He is working at
SUCTION GAS ENGINE Mfg. Co. Ltd.
in Tokyo (E-mail: takeuchi@... or have a look at
http://www.suction.co.jp/
If you want to build an engine on your own and develop an
(perhaps better ?) own approach, have a look at the
LTD Stirling engines and/or have a look at my website,
which shows you some basic designs of engines running
with a 'hot' end below 200 degrees Farenheit and are very
simple constructed.

It has been a couple months since Boyd's passing and I miss him.

As irascible and contrary as he could be, he was still someone I
enjoyed having extended, errrrr, discussions with. Whether Boyd ever
understand the import of the 2nd law of thermodynamics was, to me,
irrelevant. He made interesting observations and sent me info I would
not have otherwise known.

On this day of Valentines, I send to Boyd and all his family this

Hello all again,

Below is the message I originally wrote the other day.  I have already received several replies, and I want to thank all of you for the responses.  I already have enough homework to keep me busy for a while.  I'll also be contacting some of you privately.  Several people have asked for more data on the application.  I will provide some more data below.  The application is currently only theoretical, but here's basically what I'm trying to do.

First, I want to find an externally fired heat engine which will put out mechanical power on a shaft of 2 HP or more.  At this point, I'm only searching for the engine component.  This mechanical power could be used to turn a generator, a pump, a compressor, or any other load.  The most likely, but certainly not the only possible, source of heat is hydrogen fusion.  Just kidding, I mean solar energy.  I could also use firewood, natural gas, or whatever.  The most likely input to the heat engine would be hot water coming from one of these sources.

Here are several scenarios in which the machine could run.  I'm just guessing at the numbers here.  If I use a fuel burning boiler, the input temperatures will be hotter.  This assumes running from solar energy in the South Eastern United States.

summer - best case - heat sink uses solar generated ice - may not be practical
   input temperature - 200 deg F (94 deg C)
   output temperature - 32 deg F (0 deg C)
   delta - 168 deg F (94 deg C)

summer - good case - ground heat sink
   input temperature - 200 deg F (94 deg C)
   output temperature - 50 deg F (10 deg C)
   delta - 150 deg F (84 deg C)

summer - worst case - air heat sink
   input temperature - 200 deg F (94 deg C)
   output temperature - 90 deg F (32 deg C)
   delta - 110 deg F (62 deg C)

winter - best case - heat sink uses solar generated ice - may not be practical
   input temperature - 140 deg F (60 deg C)
   output temperature - 32 deg F (0 deg C)
   delta - 108 deg F (60 deg C)

winter - good case - air heat sink
   input temperature - 140 deg F (60 deg C)
   output temperature - 40 deg F (4 deg C)
   delta - 100 deg F (56 deg C)

winter - worst case - ground heat sink
   input temperature - 140 deg F (60 deg C)
   output temperature - 50 deg F (10 deg C)
   delta - 90 deg F (50 deg C)

I think these numbers are fairly realistic and I think all the conversions are correct.  I'm more fluent in Fahrenheit than Celsius.  After the basic engine is located or designed, the collector and heat sink systems would have to be designed considering the temperature extremes, flow rates, and BTU's / hour, etc.  If the design could be built around the winter - worst case, then it would only do better in other conditions.  Also, 2 HP is just a minimum design goal.  If the power could be increased, there would be many more useful applications.  Cost would obviously be a factor, but that's down the road.

Thanks for all your help.

Sincerely,

Ron Frazier

Hi cara,

Thanks for the note.  One problem is that you have to get the steam hotter than 212 deg F to generate pressure.  My steam chart says you have to get it to 298 deg F to generate 50 psi of pressure and 338 deg F to generate 100 psi of pressure.  Those temperatures are considerably harder to maintain with a solar collector without a parabolic reflector.  Even 200 deg F may be hard to get.  Thanks for the idea though.  Steam is certainly fascinating and has lots of history.  I'm certainly open to any design that works.  Perhaps a steam type engine with a lower boiling point fluid.

Also, someone recently told me there was a parabolic dish that didn't need tracking.  Obviously, it must be a modified parabola.  Anybody know anything about that?

Sincerely,

Ron Frazier

Hi Ron,

You could look at adapting any IC engine (in particular diesels) for
use by changing the head and injection/exhaust system. Another
thought is to check out the tesla turbine group on yahoo - relatively
easy construction but generally being designed for higher temps, of
course, these can also be adapted by changing blade size.

Some have experimented with the use of automobile AC compressors
operated in reverse, likewise turbochargers.

Steam is a possibility but a better choice might be various
refrigerants - freon, ammonia, butane, propane, CO2, etc. Lots of
info on the web.

If you need some links - tell me - and I'll put a few together.

WINGED SERPENT MASTER - "Serpent Sigil"

Winged Serpent Master is 19 year old Adhab Al-Farhan (aka Lord Nefarious). I have to give him credit, at such a young age he has created quite powerful music. If you like your black metal raw, primal, and not overly produced - "Serpent Sigil" is for you. I only wish that the music was mixed a little louder, the vocals seem a bit dominating. Otherwise, strong. At times you can even hear an industrial, experimental edge to this.

Phil,

If I put a dippy bird in glass container and put him in water up
to his ankles and sealed the glass container would he ever run out
of water? IF so, where does the water go?

Inquiring minds just gotta know...

Latex Records artists are those in the gothic, industrial, and/or electronic music scenes unafraid of exploring mysticism, magick, myth, and the deeper recesses of the subconscious.

"The Obsolete View" CD featuring: Hollowing, Aere Aeternus, and Metanemfrost is now available at Latex Records' online shop.

"Metanemfrost is 19-year-old Adhab Al-Farhan, born in Manila, Philippines on May 26, 1983 to a Filipina mother and a Kuwaiti father. The project emerged in the fall of 2000 in Arlington, Virginia. The following year, a split CD-R between Metanemfrost and Inner Decay (Adhab's industrial death metal project) was unleashed. The early sound of Metanemfrost was colder and noisier than it is now, which is a more industrialized sound, and darker than ever before. Metanemfrost's "side" of the split CD-R, titled Prurient Parasite, has been compared to artists such as Merzbow, Masonna, and even early Cold Meat Industries artists."

Sorry it took so long to respond, I just noticed your note yesterday.

The answer is very simple. When the humidity of the space above the
water gets high enough, additional water will be unable to evaporate
from the bird's beak and it will stop dipping.

This might work, provided that the water vapor in the closed container
could radiate enough heat out through the glass to keep it at a
temperature below that produced on the bird's beak by the sunlight. Then
you'd have a heat engine working between the sun on the hot side and the
earth's ambient temperature on the cold side. But if you didn't let the
solar heat escape, then the bird would stop working when the temperature
of the water vapor reaches that of the hot spot produced by the
sunlight. Eventually, of course, it would also stop working when the
whole thing melts and vaporizes.
