I am not sure if this helps or not, I use a Dell X30 624 mhz and a GPS 10. I also have WxWorx radar. When I first installed APIC two years ago or so the X30 could not link to both bluetooth technologies (GPS and WxWorx). I found a program online called "Franson GPSGate." That allowed me to establish more than one bluetooth connection to the X30. Certainly others may have found other ways to solve this problem or to do this - but it did work for me. Once I got the settings right I can now easily connect to both the GPS 10 and Wx Worx.
Now, each time I upgrade software programs I have to fix the settings so I haven't done that in a while. It has been working great for sometime now - a year or so.
Good luck. Tom Jackson.

It may be a memory issue. Make sure and install APIC to your SD card
and free up as much of the main program memory as possible. It is
also a possibility that your data file "ApicStoredData.txt" has been
corrupted. Try deleting it, then starting up APIC again. It is in
the folder program files/approach/apic/data.

Thanks Rob,
I had done all the things you mentioned, so I uninstalled/reinstalled
the software from scratch and started working with it again.
Interestingly, I was able to make some progress, but it still doesn't
work fully.
The main problem I was having (pilot error) is that I was trying to
enable the features (roads, lakes, etc.) by checking the boxes to the
right of the descriptions. I discovered that I needed to click on
the text itself to select the feature (the adjacent box being for the
description text on the display, I guess). As some feedback, this
was not intuitive to me as a user.
OK, that said... it is still not fully working on my system. It
seems that I can only enable some of the choices at any one time. If
I try to select any more, they seem to stay selected when I am in the
settings menu, but then they reset as soon as I leave the page. Is
it possible that this is due to some kind of memory limitation?
Another thing that I discovered is that the data for "road" appears
to be the same data as that for "railroad". I was looking at it in
the area near Ontario, CA (ONT).
Anyway, thanks again for any comments. This is a very cool product.

In order to view the moving map (terrain) and geographical data
(rivers, lakes, cities, etc.) you need to meet the following conditions
1. Install the Terrain and Geographical Data by running the
installation files WestTerrainInstall.exe and
NorthAmericaGeoDataInstall.exe which were included in your APIC download
2. Have an active GPS connection or have the simulation mode activated.
3. Enable the Terrain and Geographical data in the Settings/Geodata
Menu

I have been "playing with" APIC (the free version), and have noticed
that some things don't seem to display. For example, the roads,
rivers, lakes, cities, urban areas, railroads don't seem to show up.
Also, it seems like obstacles such as towers don't show up. I have
played with the "Geographical Data" settings, but that doesn't seem
to change anything.
The terrain function seems to work fine. The aviation data seems to
work fine also.
Here is my system info:
Dell Axim X51v
Windows Mobile 5.0
Intel PXA270 processor
Processor Speed: 624 MHz
RAM size: 64MB
GPS: Bluetooth i.Trek M5
I am storing the data on a CF card.
I am using APIC version 2653
Anybody have any idea what might be wrong?
Thanks,
Judd
Hi Jon,
How much memory does your 700W come equipped with? On my HTC PPC6800
(Mogul), when it's absolutely bone stock, APIC runs fine on it.
However, I have a couple of front-end enhancements and usability
tools that I run (Spb Mobile Shell, Spb Pocket Plus) that reside in
system memory and cause problems with some parts of APIC because
there's not enough memory available to load certain components, even
when I install APIC on a memory card.
Thanks and best regards,
Chris

The Sim works so far, but I've not yet tried it with a bluetooth (or any)
GPS.
The only problem I've found is that due to the screen size on the Palm
700w, (and 700wx) the setting and airport ID screens "run over". Since
this is the first time I've fooled around with WinMob/WinCe, there may be
some way to pan over. It's not really a hinderance, but it is annoying.
Sure, I know the 700W is getting to be old technology, but it's cheap and
it works.
Jon
Has anyone tried APIC on a Palm 700w (this runs Win Mob 5.x)? The APIC
folks say it *should* work, and I agree.
I'm going to try it later today unless someone tells me I'm wasting my
time. ;)
Thanks
Jon

There is no way to set a default airport, but that is a good

Hi Paul, You don't have to have a GPS connected... altho it is easier to use with a GPS... If you had a GPS the map would readily show you at 9A5 but sense your not hooked to a GPS let's try and simulate that you are. 1. Click on the APIC icon. 2. It will say "error cant initialize the gps" Click OK. 3. Now you should see the APIC startup screen 4. In the top right side blue box [SIM] click on that. 5. You should now see a new box with simulation values... Click [Go To Airport] 6. A keypad should have poped up, enter 9 A 5 and hit OK 7. A box with your airport at the top should be there, hit OK twice, then Yes to turn off GPS. 8. APIC is now simulating you taking off from 9A5 and heading north The ground should change from RED as your too low to green - but the mountains just past CHA are red so you better turn right soon! If you get this far just start clicking on stuff. You can click on the airspeed to enter a new airspeed value, or altitude... Let me know if you got this far. Mike - APIC user
The Approach Plates Application is sold separately. If you purchase
APIC Pro, it comes with a year of Approach Plate updates, and is $89
to keep your APIC subscription current, and $99 to keep your Approach
Plate subscription current. If you buy the APIC Approach Plates, you
have to view them through APIC, but the two Approach Plate viewers are
essentially the same.

I got started but not doing much good...my local airport is 9A5... my computer is not hooked up to function as with a gps...alli can get on the sim is utah...any help appreciated. Paul
Hi Paul, I'll help ya get started. 1) click on the SIM button and tell it what airport you'd like to start from (your local airport?) 2) see the moving map? The purple circles are controlled airports, click on one. See the data? Go to that airport. Let me know you got that far and we'll go to next step. Mike
Mike,
The reason that you can't get the user waypoint to show up could be
one of many things. The first thing that I would check is that you
have User Waypoints enabled in the settings menu. It's either under
geographical or aviation data, I can't remember off the top of my
head. If you enable that and still can't see it, chances are if you
entered in the waypoint, you must have made an error entering the
coordinates, and you may want to double check that you have entered
the waypoint using the right lat/lon coordinates format. One thing
you can do to verify that the user waypoints are working and enabled
is to put APIC in "Pan Mode", then click anywhere on the moving map.
This will create a user waypoint in the spot you clicked. The little
red circle should show up there, with a default name such as
"UserWpt1". Try that out and see how it goes.
As for your pricing question, with the $189 purchase of APIC Pro, you
get 1 year of software updates and 1 year of Approach Plates. To
renew after that it is $99 a year for Approach Plates, and $89 a year
for software updates.

Thanks for the info..I have it on my PC...finding time is thre big problem...would suggest putting in a rout and giving it a go or how??? I've read the manual but it stricks with me for ...nada. Paul
Hey Paul, I installed it on my home PC and have been messing with it. I think that's the best way to learn. If you took a 1 hour class you'd probably learn and retain about 10 minutes of info, at least I would! Anyway, install it on your home PC, then click on the SIM button and tell it what airport you'd like to start from. Then your off and running. Ask questions from there. So far I've figured out how to store user waypoints, modify the checklists, do an approach to a runway with glideslope, and set up a flight plan. I even got the thing to fly an approach then pop up the airport diagram - the whole time it had a little circle on my flight path and glide path. Try airport LAL or LAX for approach plates.... Mike
the "u"+d"+"s"+"f" are hard to work with.
At least can we map to other keys???
great product..love it.
Going to use an extenal 8" touchscreen off laptop.
Will have some pictures soon
Let's assume you start out by entering a waypoint MyHome Lat 28.00000
Lon -78.0000 and then you enter another waypoint say 24.00000
-80.0000. When you go back and click on any waypoint all the LAT LON
fields are repopulated with the data from MyHome. You can cancel out
of it but if you want to just tweek a waypoint lat lon, this forces
you to re-enter all the lat lon data if you click on any waypoint
other than MyHome. Hope I explained that ok... Mike
I see the name of the "User Waypoint" is displayed on the moving map.
It would be nice to be able to click on them just like an airport and
go to them... No biggie, just nice. Also would be nice if we could
store a line of info with each waypoint, like a frequency or name...
Just a suggestion.
Also, I have several times been in the Flight Plan screen and clicked
"cancel" thinking that it would just close the window without doing
anything. A windows mentality I have. Maybe the button should say
"erase" as it clears the flight plan- oops!
Thanks,
Mike
