Re: ASCOM Installer Problems

Most likely, the problem is that you still have (version identifying)
information about the previous ASCOM in your Windows Registry.

Click the Windows [start] button, then click "Run..."
in the dialog window, type: regedit
Click OK.

At this point, i recommend clicking the "File" choice in the
Registry Editor's top menu bar, and the Export choice under that.
In the File open screen that appears, click the "ALL" choice
in the "export range" section at the bottom of the window,
and give it a MEMORABLE file name and location so you can find
this backup copy of the registry data if you need it.

HAving done that, in the registry editor window,
click the "Edit" choice on the top bar.
Click "Find" in the menu.
enter: ASCOM in the search box.
Click [find next]
Do that (the F3 key is also "find next") until you locate the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / ASCOM folder.
Delete that folder.

Exit the registry editor by clicking the red [x] in the upper
right corner.

NOW try installing the new ASCOM.

good luck

p.s. standard "if you mess up the registry, windows will get very
sick" warnings apply.

I demoved AScom, but eventually I had to send the PC to the service shop. Now
that it is back, I was re-installing the software I removed. When I went to
install ASCOM, it said that I would have to remove the previously installed
version before I could install a new one. When I went to SkyTools 3 and
selected ASCOM supported telescope, it said that ASCOM was not fully installed.

installed, but ASCOM won't run because the installation is only partial.

in the program menu, nor in the add/remove program menu. And there is no ASCOM
folder on the HDD.
