Terry,

Thanks to the suggestion from Bob Denny, the latest version of the TCC
(1.5.8) automatically takes care of DCOM configuration. In case you
don't know, you need to use TCC v 1.5.8 or greater to use CCDSoft
@focus. This release contains a step size calculator and returns the
appropriate step sizes to CCDSoft need for @focus.

Regards,
Dan

Chris,

Thanks for your reply a little while back.

It prompted me to hunt for the source code installed with ASCOM, in which I
have dug up examples which do what I'm wanting - And have lead me to
another help file I hadn't noticed in the install: Driver Helper Objects,
which contains all the info I need (methods DMSToDegrees and DegreesToDMS
are exactly the kind of thing I was after).

As I suspected, extremely obvious.

Sorry for the long delay in reply, I've been too busy with other things
lately to get back to my ASCOM programming. Your reply is much appreciated.

Roger.

Hi Everyone,

Probably a question that's been asked before.....but I can't find it
anywhere.

Will Ascom support lxd55 autostar protocall? Is the LX200 protocall
the same as lxd55?

Thanks ahead of time!

Hope I'm not out of bounds here, but I don't know about a marketing
plan that requires you to 'join a club' in order to find out about the
product. Or comment on same.

Pass.

Take the time to visit the link, all the info you need is there. The 'club'
is just a groups for people to share ideas, questions, etc. This is not
unlike the dozens of other product specific groups (MAPUG, SBIG, etc.).
What gave you the impression that you are required to join the group, the
email Al sent clearly gives the link to all of the docs for Astrohub?

The problem is the requirement to join the group to read the messages.
It makes sense to require joining to post but I see no reason to require
membership just to read data.

John,

Did you see the response to the last complaint post you made on this
subject? There was a response by me and others informing you that
even this group (ASCOM-Talk), as do most others, have the sign-
up "requirement" as a necessity to keep spam and objectional posts
out of the group. I had a major issue with that on another group I
moderate and will never have a fully open group again. I owe it to
the group members who can be very offended with some of the posted
material to keep this stuff out of the group. If that means some
people won't join, so be it.

Please check back in this group around the time you made your last
post if you missed the responses we all made.

Al

You are a "member" of the "club" to post on this group, you know!
You may have been grandfathered in when the group was converted to
subcribe only so never realized it. Try to join now with another
name and you will be greeted with the same request for a
subscription. Try joining most any new Yahoo group these days and
you will be asked to do the same.

Please see the off-topic thread that starts here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ASCOM-Talk/message/6455
on this subject. I shouldn't be keeping it going but people need
education on why things are the way they are.

This group is not the place to discuss this as it is totally off-
topic so I beleive the thread should end here.

Since Yahoo groups are optional, you may want to either forego any
group that has this requirement for members only (for posting or
reading) and/or unsubscribe to those that are this way given your
objection. It is clear many moderators are convinced this is the
only way to handle these groups (me included) and, IMHO, it is only
getting to be more that way than less.

There used to be problems with allowing non-members to read the message
archives, since spammers could harvest email addresses from them. However, I
think Yahoo is a bit more cunning these days and disguises the email addresses,
so it may no longer be an issue. Personally, I think it's better to err on the
safe side though.

Bob,

Works like a champ with the LX200 and Autostar driver. I have quite of few
user of GuideDog on LXD55 mounts. But guiding is better with the
undocumented Mgd##### commands implemented in the autostar firmware. These
are not supported as yet by the Meade driver's pulseGuide().

Al,
The APM 909 plugs into the Aux port on the base of the LX90. It does not
connect to the Autostar. It provides connections for a Reticle Eyepiece,
Electric Foucuser, and CCD Guideport. So it provides the same functionality
as the connections on the Classic LX200s. The CCD Guideport is a standard
6-pin connector for a camera/guider which switches a N,S,E,W connection to
ground to move at the guide rate. This requires either a camera with built
in relays, or some type of interface adapter/relay box to be controlled via
software over a parallel port. I have quite a few users of GuideDog guiding
through the APM using Etienne Bonduelle's interface, or one of the interface
adapters from shoestringastronomy.com

Thanks Steve

So the APM essentially is an "ST-4 output" to #M command converter?
Does this have the same issues as the GPS scopes where the latency
or whatever of the serial interface won't allow decent guiding as
the Classic LX200's did? How about the "undocumented" #Mg
commands? Does the APM use these?

Al,

"So the APM essentially is an "ST-4 output" to #M command converter?"

No, the APM is an ST-4 compatible INPUT, that is independent of the Autostar
controller. It appears that the APM was designed to interface dedicated
guiding cameras. I thought that the LX90 used a different version of the
Autostar controller, so that the only way to guide was via parallel port and
the APM 909. But... looking at Meade's page:

http://www.meade.com/catalog/lx/lx90.html

It would apprear it uses the 497 autostar. If that's the case, I would
assume you could guide it with a #505 serial cable and the standard LX200
commands (which would more than likely suffer the rubber-banding effect from
the standard pulseGuide() commands). With the proper firmware, it should
support the new Mgd#### commands as well.

I'm pretty much confused myself now ;-) Perhaps a post to the LX90 Yahoo
group would get you the answer you need.

A camera. If you are currently using Maxim+PinPoint or TheSky+CCDSoft then PAM
should work fine. Actually PinPoint+CCDSoft works too.

I meant to say the APM module takes the output of a camera or relay
box and converts these to #M commands for those Meade mounts that
don't have an auto-guider input (aka CCD input on the Classic LX-
200).

You think your confused?! I've got you beat by a mile as far as
this topic goes. <g>

As I understand it, the APM909 module 'talks' to the controller via
an I2C 2-wire inter-chip bus. I do not know at what data rate, but
I would expect to latency to be much less than RS232.

Hello,

This post is probably better on the users group but I figured I would
post here while my membership in that group is being reviewed, I think
all the people in "the know" are here.

My setup is G11/Gemini L3, TheSky6, MaxImDL/CCD 4.03 and I am
currently evaluating ACP3. I configure the system using POTH (Gemini
Driver) as the hub (or ACP3), connect TheSky using TelescopeAPI.

Not long after starting a session, (seems random) I get TelescopeAPI
error messages to the effect that the driver does not have a
RightAscension property, dismissing the dialog only has it pop up
again in effect locking up the system. If I try to disconnect I get a
message that the driver does not have a Connected property, also
repeated if I close the dialog. The only way out is to terminate
everything.

If I use the Telescope Simulator driver everything appears to work
fine. Switching to TheSky controlled scope driver also appears to
work fine except with ACP3 which gives a "Error 70" and quits.

Also, a non ASCOM problem, I cannot get ACP3 scripts to work. It says
that it needs the full version of Pinpoint. The download page said
Pinpoint is included with ACP3. I downloaded and installed Pinpoint 4
anyway and it still says it needs the full version of Pinpoint. Even
Pinpoint will not work, it also says it needs the full verison of
Pinpoint???

Any suggestion on what is going wrong and solutions would be much
appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe Colosi

Hi, Peter,
There should be a manual available with the download, which you
can get to from here: http://users.bsdwebsolutions.com/~larryweber/

Yes, you need a CCD camera and either Maxim DL/CCD or CCDSoft - in
PoleAlignMax you interact with an image in real time.

I am making a preview release of my Sphinx driver available for comment.

This update adds slewing and guiding features and requires firmware
1.2 build 24. It is very much for experimenting with at this stage and
has very little error handling.

The pointing accuracy is limited to 1.5 arcminutes for RA and 1
arcminute for DEC. This appears to be an arbitrary limitation of the
firmware more than anything else.

Please provide feedback of your experiences with this driver and your
software.

Subject: MaximDL + HNSKY + Ascom/POTH ==> Sync problems
de_ponth

I've posted the following message on hnsky yahoogroup

Somebody could help me, indeed the problem could be related to
Ascom/POTH

Thanks

Pierre de Ponthiere (Belgium)

==========================
Hans,

I've a major problem to make Sync in my configuration

Hardware Configuration.
     Telescope Lx200GPS
mounted on an permanent pier and an equatorial wegde in a
dome.
	 aligned carefully with "drift method"
     Camera SBIG ST7

Softare configuration
Hnsky for telescope control and planetarium.
MaximDL for camera and telescope control
POTH (Ascom) acting as a hub for Hnsky and MaximDL

MaximDL transmits/receives the celestial coordinates with equinox
Jdate.
So, I'm compelled to set Hnsky also with equinox of the date
(Settings/ Equinox /actual RA and DEC ==JDate).

Goto and Sync from MaximDL are working fine and Hnsky diplay the
pointing Cross at the correct position.

The problem comes when I try to Sync from Hnsky.
Having put my_star in the middle of Pointing Circles, I press on the
Hnsky Sync button. I expect the pointing Cross will move to my_star.
The error is around 7'. A Goto to my_star (with Hnsky) will result in
a telescope move putting the star outside of the field of view.
If hnsky is used alone with equinox J2000 in "Settings", the sync
function works correctly.

I've also tried to investigate with the Ascom Scope simulator, the
behaviour is different:
when you sync the cross doesn't go on my_star, but the coordinates of
the simulator change (i.e. a move in the simulated scope). After when
you Goto to my_star the coordinates of the simuator are correct. With
the real scope, a sync doesn't send a command to the scope.

I've read in the Hnsky Help that in settings I've to choose the J2000
instead of JDate, but in my configuration it's not possible as
MaximDL assumes coordinates exchanged with POTH are with JDate
equinox. MaximDL provides also a flag selecting JDate/J2000, this one
is used only for coordinate display and not for scope control.

The use of Hnsky with MaximDL (and POTH for the hub) should be very
powerfull as you can sync from
- accurate coordinates calculated from the CCD image (MaximDL
provides a plug-in "PinPoint" making astrometry on the CCD field of
stars)
- any star displayed in hnsky. MaximDL has limited database and no
sky map.

The "Measuring Frame" in hnsky is no more North/South aligned when
JDate is selected in Settings. The two problems linked?

Could you help me?

By the way, which is the purpose of "Coordinate Management" in the
POTH setup?
Ascom does not provide any documentation or help. The Ascom
YahooGroup is used only by software designers and is not helpfull.
I've tried the different options (in POTH "Coordinate Management")
for the "Equatorial system" : J2000, Local and Other, but the results
are not affected by this setting.
The "Gem Flip Delay" as been put to zero, but I assume that it
provides indications for German equatorial mounts.

In Hnsky Help (Ascom telescope interface) it's said :
"Secondly a HNSKY toolbar with two small sets of up/down buttons will
become visible. They will allow small corrections in RA/DEC pointing
position of telescope, to match the telescope view with the HNSKY
window."

I never undestood the use these up/down buttons. Are they used to
compensate miss-aligned equatorial mounts?

Many thanks and kind regards.

Dear all,

I am using a ACP 3.3 licence for local use.

I am afraid that my ACP installation will be spoiled if I install the trial
version for testing the web server!
