I guess this is an intro post. I've been lurking here for a bit, as
the subject intrigues me, but I haven't seen much traffic. I know
almost nothing about American chestnut trees, except that many early
American pioneers built their cabins from them - and that there was
a blight and (I thought) they all died. Sounds as though that last
is not completely correct.

While I don't put myself in the "tree hugger" category, I grew up on
the Minnesota/Canada border where there is still, some at least,
deep woods. I've planted a lot of trees over the years, and
continue to do so. I really can't imagine country without trees,
and have been appalled by city folk who come up our way, buy
property, and immediately have their land clear cut for various
reasons. Right now, we have more loggers and pulp plants than our
forests can sustain, and our forestry people want to cut everything
and grow back only fast growing trees that can be cut again in a few
years. This really pisses me off.

My question about American chestnut tress is, will they grow in my
neck of the woods, and if so, where do I get some?

P.
