hi!
it was stated that the cgx4-voodoo3-driver would work with the
voodoo3-3000 card. does it also work with the voodoo3-2000?
is there a list of supported cards somewhere out there? is there a
amiga-pci-website?
thanks, roman

I've just installed a pci network card into the Mediator, now I need
to configure Genesis to recognise it. However I cannot seem to do so.
Has anyone done this yet? if so can you give me a full run thru
(either privately or thru the list).
Muchas Gracias

I can't rembember for the first release.. but the installer won't force
copy over cgxmode if it is the same version. If the first version had the
TT BOARD set it would fail.. CGXmode need to auto guess the board names
installed. The TT for Board is 'removed' correctly for the latest
archive.. this could have been the problem.

Please send a log next time there is an installer problem.. thanks.

In the works now... no set date for a release.

great! downloaded it, tried it (un lzx'ed it from my PC hard disk over my
sparkling new network! :-)) ) and CGXMode didnt work! :-(((

the installed must have a fault or summat (or my system is screwy) - I
copied over the file into my prefs drawer and chose replace in the resulting
requester, tried running it and it worked! :-)
So.. if your CGXMode program still aint working ppl, go into the archive,
show all files and then go into the CGXMode directory and then drag and drop
the CGXMode in there into your Sys:Prefs directory - It should work then!
:-))
(unless I am just unlucky and it didnt copy the file right for me!)

ok, well I shall email you that info later on. Dont forget though that I
would like to keep a database of all the working cards in the Databases
section of the Amiga-Mediator egroups site... infact if you ppl have the
time you could fill the information in for me! ;-))

Sam Thomas - Off to play with CGXMode at last! :-))))))
Hiyas all :-)
Little tip that I can give to some ppl out there who might be having
trouble getting things to work to start with on thier Network cards...
If Genesis (or perhaps Miami, I dont use that atm) complain of not being
able to find the card MediatorNet.device or say it may already be in use
give this a try out:
where you enter the name of the device driver in, instead of putting:
MediatorNet.device (as it SHOULD be!)
try:
MediatorNET.device
For some reason it would only work if I called the device driver that way!
even though the file itself is MediatorNet.device
Cheerio
Sam Thomas - Might work if you are having probs getin gthe card recognised,,
:-)
Well, the new message from Elbox also had an updated MediatorNET.device :\
It hasn't helped me though. I've got a Linksys LNEPCII NIC that crashes Miami
if I use it. (It should work, being a pretty standard winbond NIC). Also,
I've got a realtek NIC that works flawlessly... unless you go offline and then
back online. If you do that, Miami crashes :\
Anyone else having these problems?

I will be posting the new archive in the next few hours.. The Driver name
has changed.. so you must remove the elboxgenericvirge driver from
devs:monitors and then install the new stuff..
I also (out of a few requests) started a NIC section on the Mediator

SANA2 driver I can add it there also...

There is the Alpha Voodoo3 driver there, but I doubt you meant that?

the Virge Driver (albeit buggy) is just the same as all the other CGFX
drivers out there as far as I know, so if it (the software) runs on a Merlin
GFX card for a ZorroII system (if thats right?) it should work just as well
(better than when the drivers are working better!) as the other cards that
have been available.
Basically any program that lets you choose a screenmode to run in should be
fine running on the Mediator GFX cards :-) (assuming the driver work
properly ;-) )

Hiyas,
thought that I would see if any of you other mediator owners are having any
probs with your setup. If you are and have solved them can you let me know
how please! (i'm begging!)
1: ramlib problems, systems starts ok, runs ok - but if it crashes I (80% of
the time) get a ramlib error requester window ome up :-/. now obviously this
is sent out via the RF so I cant see that it has locked up until I turn the
TV set on :-/
I have tried the various ramlib patches out there and none of seem to work
:-/
2: simmilier to the above, but this time it is c:Mount failing on me! :-/
sometimes it is before the monitor is activated, but more often than not it
is just after the WB screen has appeared.
I dont have a clue how to stop either of these problems atm and have even
gone as far as a complete system reinstall (70% approx reinstalled now) so
if anyone has a idea please tell me!
Thanks,
Sam Thomas

Hi Sam,
It was just that with a small number of graphics cards being previously
available for Amiga`s, any software developed from 2 - 5 years ago may have
been developed with only those graphics adaptors in mind, therefore may have
had serious problems coping with a newcomer to this market. Or if my point
is not completely made, the software may be more or less hard coded to run
using Picasso or Cybergfx drivers specifcally, and may encounter serious
problems when using a Virge.

o Very happy overall :-)))
o Pleased with the build quality and runs reasonably well :-)
o Happy, It works ok for me!
o Wishing that there were more drivers available by now (Soundcard, USB,

o Pleased with the build quality but let down because of the GFX drivers :-[
o Fed up with the whole setup and wanting a refund due to lack of decent GFX
drivers atm.

1. I didnt get it here :-/
but probably more importantly 2,
I dont think I can put it on the egroups file area anyway...why? because the
author (Frank...? sorry, cant rememeber his proper name atm) has not given

Thanks for the drivers and I will wait and see what I hear back from CGFX
before uploading them to the egroups site.
Sam Thomas (just done another 'get' and I have got the drivers!)
Hi,
The guy from Czech Amiga news mailed it to me today and I must say
that I am having one hell of a time trying to get anything other than
the cgx bootpic to be displayed, but the main thing is that cgx
finally recognises the £90 of hardware! And it displays some amazing
screenmodes etc. So near and yet...
He went on to say that Frank has told him the reason the links hav
been pulled is due to the cgxv.4 driver in development...hmmm
I've mailed the voodoo3.lha to Sam Thomas, but I think microdot had
heart attack midway and he may not have goten it. Anyway, if it ain't
available on the egroups file area then mail me if you are interested.
It's only supposed to be used for display purposes as elbox should
have their own drivers out soon, but if only it would work just
once...

Ade

All of the software base that works on the other CGFX cards should work as
normal I guess, stuff that dont run on them I guess wont work on the
Mediator/Virge setup.
I have not had that much time tbh to try many programs out myself as I have
been reinstalling my setup from scratch to get rid of some old bugs that I
had. I have given PPaint a run once but that didnt work the first time due
to (I think) it was looking for my old Pixel64 Ateo acreenmode to run in
which no longer exists in my machine :-/ all the Internet tools I have tried
work the same as before. DOpus and most of the wb 'hacks' I use still work
(wbstartup+ aint working atm for some reason, but I think that is due to
DOpus)
Anything that is hardcoded to use a PAL screen you will have trouble running
(like VistaPRO) Modepro helps, but it dont work 100% each time.
Hopefully over the next few days I will get to work out what does and doesnt
work! :-) ohh and ArtEffect works ok also. :-)
I have had (had to reinstall since my last email :-/) a basic network
running with my PC also using the MediatorNET.device also :-)

Well at least you have got a Power tower! should be fairly easy for you to
setup and get going! I think I spent the best part of four days hacking and
chopping to install my setup properly in my EZTower!! :-/
Probably best off waiting for some decent working GFX drivers in my opinion
though..

Hi all,
When you eventually get a working driver for your graphics card, what
software problems will you expect to encounter, particularly as most, if not
all our currently availablr software was designed prior to the availability
of the Mediator?
I am seriously thinking of upgrading my Power towered A1200, but would be
first interested in finding out where any contentious problems would be
before taking the plunge.

Hiyas all :-)
(having to use the online egroups poster to send this cos redhotant
has gone belly up again :-/)
Hello to the new 13 or so memebers that have signed up today! :-)
Thought that I would let you know (well there are some ppl that want
to know!) that I have finally got my Mediator Tower conversion
finished off properly! :-)))
Its all secureed in 100%, the Accelorater is now getting FAR more air
to it than before and generaly I think my setup is far more stable
now :-)
First I removed EVERYTHING from the tower!!!
basicaly, the Power supply was removed from the original place in the
tower and repositioned right at the top (about a 1/2 inch gap from
the top) - this involved hacking a new hole (hacksaw and angle grider
to tidy the 'mess' up afterwards) to let the fan work and get to the
power in and out of the setup.
I will explain the rest in a few weeks on my website with piccys and
all! :-) hopefully that will make it all a bit clearer to you all :-)
Also, when I installed CGFX I had a huge mouse pointer :-/ to solve
this (if you didnt know already) do this:
(get the execute command window up)
ed envarc:CyberGraphX/HIRESCRSR
and in this file put only the number '1' (without the quotes)
save this and then when the system is restarted it will have changed
the mouse pointer (halfed the width). Now go into the standard prefs
program and change the pointer to a hires one :-) there
you go :-) a normal pointer again :-) (afaik this has been solved in
CGFX v4 so you wont have to do this)
speaking of CGFXv4 I wonder how the drivers (Virge) for that version
are coming along?
and I wonder how the CGXMode and drivers for this version (CGFXv3)
are doing?)
Ohh and finally, I have just about got the Network running here :-)
just need to try and get the Internet shared (have'nt even tried any
of that as yet)
Cyas later :-)
Sam Thomas

anything else right now! Doh!

As far as I am aware the voodoo3 accelerates 2D aswell as 3D, so it
should be faster...hopefully.

now as, you know... the card thing!

I cancelled my preorder a few months ago, didnt think it was ever gonna come
out! going to reorder it on Monday hopefully :-)
Would a voodoo make such a big difference to a game like this? I doubt that
it would do tbh, it is all 2D isnt it? afaik the Virge should be perfectly
good for displaying the game :-) (after all, the game originally probably
came out long before the Virge boards were available on the PC!)
but yep, got to admit though a voodoo3 and a SharkPPC would be a nice thing
to have, esp if they made some decent drivers for em......
Unlike the Virge drivers are atm :-/ found another problem with my card
earlier on, it wont display a 800x600 image any higher than 15bit :-/ but it
displays 1024x768 16bit np (well it is slightly out of sync but I cant do
anything about that until the CGXMode program works! :-/ ) (I sent another
email to CGFX earlier asking if the CGXMode program will be running soon.)

what does snoopdos say it is looking for at the time?
It could just be one of the read errors ppl are getting making it ask for
Volume "Q:" ?
Hope this is of some help :-)

Now to the first question I think..... Has anyone managed to get the CGXMode
program to run and let you edit your own screenmodes? as far as I know irt
doesnt work at all, but I would love to know if you have got it working at
all! I have been intouch with PowerC today regarding the drivers and so on
for the Mediator and they told me that Elbox are currently making some
drivers up, so hopefully we may get somewhere with these when they are
realeased :-)
so to recap... has anyone got CGXMode to work?
Thanks again and Cheerio :-)

PS. I have added a couple of URL's to the links section of the egroups site
and a bit into the database section, if you have any more info or websites,
please add em to it!!! (or email me with the info!)

I have sent a couple of emails to Elbox and CGFX regarding the virge

I have notified Elbox and the CGFX team abpout this list so I am hoping that

GFX cads and I was told that Elobox are currently writing some dirvers and

Nope m8, definately not you! lol one or two shops have refused to serve me
before because I have said what my various parts are for! :-/

Ok, that sounds like a good idea to me :-)
dont forget though that VFD (them who are doing the CGFX drivers) have a
page on thier website saying what GFX Cards are working with the Virge
Mediator driver.
but as for the cards that are yet to come, yep great idea :-)
In my mediator I have got two cards:
1 is a Virge PCI GFX card purchased from Power Computing so I dont really
know what the model or anything is tbh
the other card is a:
MRi 10Mbps Ethernet Adapter bought from my local computer shop :-)
MRi's website is here: http://www.mri.co.uk and I will add it into the
links part of the egroups website. Cost me 12ukp

I will adjust the welcome page thing to say can you please provide a full

Although the installer for the mediator contains references for the
chipsets that are compatable with the Mediator, it ain't exactly easy
going down the local PC World and asking for a NIC based on the
following chips etc. Especially when they find out that it is for an
Amiga- y'get the wierdest looks (or it that just me?).
Anyway my point is this, maybe a list can be compiled through this
group containing details of all cards that work with the mediator, ie
graphics, nic, and in the future sound etc.
I would rather go into a shop and ask for a "Netlynk EG100" nic, or
a "Grapheon Super" pci Graphics card, rather than talk to some dopey
shop assistant who has absolutly no interest or clue in what you are
there for. PCI graphics cards are difficult enough to get hold of
anyway, never mind trying to get some disinterested bonehead to look
for a card based on a particular chip type, as far as he is concerned
it's in a box with a price tag and thats it.
So, if poss the details of any working cards to be posted, along with
software settings etc.
regards
john
