New development - motorised transport for the AmpTramp   Message List

Howdy folks,

The last few weekends have been quite busy, here at the home of the
'Tramper'.
As this machine weighs at least half a tonne, it is damn hard to
shift - without the help of my truck.
Since it is not always practical to bring the truck to the Tramper,
just to shift it to another location, I have added an electric drive
system that renders the Tramper independently mobile.

This comprises a 3/4 HP, DC motor, a 14 tooth sprocket that drives a
54 tooth sprocket, and another set of sprockets to couple the output
to the driveshaft.

Parts from a toyota stationwagon and a triumph 2000 were used in the
creation of the driveshaft and its associated universal couplings.

The elecric drive system, permits the Tramper to 'tear along' at
speeds upto, and including, 5 MPH - - wow !! :) .
Ok, so it's probably not going to win any races, but it sure beats
trying to push this machine along on bumpy ground.

In an effort to see how much pulling power this unit has, I let it
drag me around the paddock - on the end of a rope.
It easily drags two people, sliding along on their butts :), without
showing signs of getting tired.
It also carries two people, without any problem, so it looks like I
will be able to ride it to the worksite - instead of dragging it.

Maybe, I should add some 'smarts' to it, so it can follow a remote
signal to its' destination, and 'go home' by itself when the job is
completed :) .

There will be some pics, and a video coming soon.

Cheers,

Steve.
