Thanks, this worked!
Is there a book or manual for Apo I could buy? I am totally lost, can't even
figure out how to save it (export flame?) and keep getting error messages I
don't understand. Or is anyone on
this list willing to teach me the basics for a fee? I feel really dumb.

That url comes up with an error message. I found the message regarding the
script but no
the script.
I have been checking the website and forums but I can't find it. Could anyone
send me that script? I assume it would work with the current version.
Thanks

Hi,
Just getting to grips with this, I have an app called oxidizer which is pretty
cool, but very slow and a little bit fiddly to set up. but does do a reasonable
animation.
I have tried running several scripts ACS (Windows Apophysis) and can't manage to
get them to run.
Are there any morph/animation scripts AJS fot apophysis-j
I use snowleopard macos x
flame on!!
/terry
More than a year ago Isaac Andrade made a script to allocate more memory to
Adophysis.
Unfortunately the script disappeared from my desktop. I tried to search for it
on the deviantart.com website but have not found it.
Can anyone help me find this script?l
Thanks,
Ursula
Thanks, you're right, used stuffit and its fine . . .

Hi,
When I try to start Apophysis-J, using java -Xmx200m -jar
./apophysis-j-26.jar, a window, completely blank except for the title
bar and frozen (won't close when I click the X), opens. The terminal
outputs the error:
0 sheep variations found
and then nothing! I have to close it with Ctr-C.
Does anyone know why this might be happening? I am running Ubuntu 8.04
with the latest java-runtime environment.
Thanks,
Mary

Okay, so I'm new at this. I don't pretend to know enough about Apo
scripting to solve these problems, or about the program itself.
However, I am finding it extremely difficult to learn due to the
differences between Apophysis and its Java port.
For reference, I am using Mac OS X 10.5.5 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2
Duo MacBook.
First, whenever I create a new blank flame and try to edit the
transforms, a new white transform by the name of "Final" creates
itself and causes the changes I make to the other triangles not to
take effect. This phenomenon does not appear to happen in any other
case (such as the tutorials I've been reading to try and figure this
out), so I'm inclined to believe it's a quirk of the Java version.
Also, this appears to happen regardless of how many transforms I use,
but it does not occur when I create a new random batch.
Second, I have so far been unable to successfully run even a single
script from any of my download resources. I get errors referring to
"Invalid assignment left-hand side (Line 0)" and other such
peculiarities. That error message is the most common (and a pretty
neat trick, considering that there IS no Line 0), but I have also
gotten a complaint about a missing semicolon, also on Line 0, and a
couple of other problems that I forget offhand. This makes it either
incredibly difficult or outright impossible to follow several
tutorials or to use even the basic script-based functions that are
supposed to be included with the program.
Is there a way around these problems, or is it just a built-in
inferiority of the Java version?

Given that Apophysis 2.08beta has been released, and 2.07beta is now
no longer functional, Apo-using developers of sheep for the Electric
Sheep project are now scrambling. As a response, I posted the
following message to the Woosie forums in the Apophysis developer
area. Anyone is eligible for the bounty - not just the official
Apophysis developers. Scott and I have donated the bounty.
[---]
I have a proposition for developers regarding a Sheep-Developer
version of Apophysis. Clearly, Apo is diverging from the flam3
baseline in many ways, and it is more of a branch of the flam3 code
than a further development at this point. So, if possible, I'd like to
commission a version of Apo 2.07 that does not expire, and comes
bundled with either plugins or hard-coded variations that match the
output of flam3, v 2.7.14. This way, people who have come to love Apo
for designing sheep and flames, but will eventually render with the
flam3 engine, will have a version that they can play with and not
worry about incompatible images, or features that aren't supported, etc.
A bounty of $200 is offered for this version of Apophysis. This
doesn't just mean giving us 2.07 without the time limit - this means
regression testing with a set of flames that we've put together. No
new features would be required other than supporting the variations in
2.7.14.
Comments?

Hello,
I've released Apophysis-j version 2.6
Changelog :
- Fixes a bug where randomBatch looped if only one transform was set in
options.
- Integrates several fixes proposed by Pascal Lamboley
(lamboley.pascal@...) :
Flames tag was not properly closed.
Flame attributes rotate and gamma_threshold were not saved.
Transform attribute symmetry was not saved.

Your welcome Ursula, I'm glad to hear it was of use to more than just me :)
At first I was starting to worry that my scripts had gone on unnoticed or didn't
work cause I
frequently check my deviantart page for feedback but it remained empty. I had
seen how
inconvenient it was to run apo-j so I wanted to simplify the process. Personally
I think it was
worth the time setting it up :)
Thank you for the feedback, I'll update my deviant blog to show 10.4 works as
well.

Hi Ursula,
I don't think it may be the same because you get messages that seem to
state it has started to try and process for 43 seconds, but then
failed. I don't even get that.
Are you running Windows, Mac OSX, or Linux? If it's not windows, I
wonder if you are having a permission problem and are not able to open
a new file in the destination location. You can test for this by using
another program, such as a text editor, and try to save a new file in
the same place as your flame file. If it also gives you an error, that
may mean your login account doesn't have permission to write to that
location and you have to save your files someplace else.

Thank you JFB for your looking at this when you get back from vacation.
Take care all...
You don't sound like a newbie to me, are you referring to the
same problem that I have with saving or exporting flames in
the previous message?

Hello ,
This error in apo-j about the flames tag has just been notified to me by
someone else too. I am currently in vacations and cannot intervene on the
program now, but I will fix it as soon as I return, last week of july.

Help!
I'm a newbie to Java and haven't been able to find out how to
'compile' apo-j source into a new jar file.
There is a defect in the .flame file format created by apo-j-25. This
defect is ignored by apo-j when reloading the file, but if I use
flam3-render to create the final image, the flame file fails due to
the error.
The last line of the .flame file might have "</Flames". It should be
"</Flames>". I edited main.java to fix this error, but I don't know
how to recompile apo-j into a new jar file.
Does someone know what the command line is to recompile apo-j?
I am running Ubuntu 8.04 with OpenJDK-6-jdk installed.
I have been struggling with this for days now, so I gotta ask. When I try
render a flame, it
goes through the action and then gives me this message (see error)
--- Rendering /Volumes/apophysis-j-25/Apophysis-080626-8.jpg
Size : 706 x 806
Quality: 200.0
Oversample : 2, Filter: 0.4
Buffer depth:
Creating image with quality = 200.0
Error saving image !
Average speed: 1359000 points per second
Pure rendering time : 00:00:43:078
When I try to save it by "export flame" it tells me to check my options.
I have no clue how to do this. Even if I did would I have to do this every time
I try
to save?
Are there some simple instructions for beginners? The Help does not tell me the
basics.
Thanks for any help of this,
Ursula
Hi Isaac,

This post is to help people get a bit more up to speed on why you're getting the
error
message. Basically that error is the result of the java client being unable to
receive enough
RAM to be able to perform the render at your current settings. In MacosX 10.5.3
Leopard,
you will only have 48 MB's of RAM available for a given render if you had
started apophysis
via doubleclicking it's icon on your hard drive or dock. The way to get around
the memory
error is to start up apophysis through the application called "Terminal"
Step one: Place the apophysis-j application in your applications folder.
------------------------------------------------------
Step Two: Open your applications folder, find the utilities folder inside, open
the utilities
folder and doubleclick 'Terminal' within that folder.
------------------------------------------------------
Step Three: In the window that opened up from terminal you should see something
similar
to the following text:
Last login: Tue Jun 24 15:19:56 on console
yourcomputername:~ name$
This text is normal. in that window you need to type the following then hit
return:
cd /applications
------------------------------------------------------
Now you should see text along the lines of this:
yourcomputername:applications name$
After you see the above text, type the following into terminal and hit return.
java -Xmx300m -jar apophysis-j-25.jar
------------------------------------------------------
*Note the number 300 next to "Xmx", That number is the amount of RAM that
apophysis
will use after typing that line of text.
If you followed all the steps you will see apophysis start up shortly after.
I am also working on some scripts to start up Terminal, load apophysis and
allocate the
desired amount of ram with a single doubleclick.
You can check on the project status updates at my DeviantArt Journal at:
http://irradiatingshadow.deviantart.com/journal/
Hope this helps.

I have done exactly what you describe below, but the
memory allocation does not increase. Also Apophysis
won't let me move it into the Apps. folder.
When I reboot my Mac the application disappears from
the desktop and has to be re-installed!
I run a Dual 2.7 Ghz Power PC G5 (not Intel) have plenty of memory and use
OS 10.4.11
Please help.
