Hi Roberto,

Both vodafone & mbox require SSL

tiscali requires JavaScript

So, no... there's no trick to get any of them to work in Arachne.

Hi all,

Long time! Good to see the list still active. I'm managing
to send this using Outlook, and haven't lost my lunch yet.

Folks who are enlightened enough to use 4DOS should
give my distro a try, since it's 100% 4DOS compatible.
You still hosting that Glenn? Probably not.

BTW what are the URL's of any active boards? Got that
all on the old DOS computer but it's on the island and I'm
on the Kanistan mainland right now with this Winders
machine. How I hate it.

Ron, Eric, how are you guys? Miss ya.

Yes.... that changes it.

Arachne is not compatible with 4dos

Use command.com only when running Arachne.

Hi all,

Well it's time for me to go off and "tie the knot", so
I'll be absent for the next three weeks or so. In the
unlikely event that moderator intervention is required,

For: arachne 1.95 DOS

I've just started playing with Arachne, and I'm very impressed!

In "Arachne Desktop" aka HOME.HTM, the "your computer" and related links (*.*,
*.htm, *.txt) didn't work. I poked around and discovered a similar link, in
guide.htm, that did.

Changing the "file:@:*.*" to "@:*.*" in the "Your computer" link set fixed
everything.

(If that didn't go through yahoo's web interface correctly, see the "browse
files on local disks" block in guide.htm.)

Well, today's the day. :-(

Alas, atbhost.net proved to be very unprofessional, making
up rules arbitrarily and without notice or any consideration
for their users. Therefore, I have now migrated my Geocities
web site to :

http://jdsnet.freehostwebs.com

Hopefully this site will be more dependable - time will tell.

Hey, good to hear from you again Glenn!

Thanks for forwarding this, I was wondering just recently
what had happened to Michael Tippach's web pages (formerly
at http://michael.tippach.bei.t-online.de). Now I know! :-)

Anyway, yes, WDOSX is one of the potential DOS extenders for
an eventual 32-bit protected-mode Arachne. I have used it in
the past, with some Delphi and GPC/DJGPP applications. I've
had no troubles with it myself, although Arkady Belousov did
report some compatibility issues with an AMD-386 machine some
years back. While the cause was never identified, this may
have been fixed inadvertently by other bug-fixes that have
occurred since that time.

Other possibilities are HX for DOS extender, and UPX for
compression.

Joe.

Hi at all'

i've found this dos extender

http://tippach.business.t-online.de/wdosx/wdosx097.zip

it's free and contain a exe called stubit capable to add a stub to
executable for use dpmi.

Can be used for stubbed arachne core.exe and gain more memory?

Thanks

my statement was related to the fact that the author still has not
fixed the problem with frequent crashes when using the Hyperdisk disk
cache that I reported more than two years ago. Also, problems that
others have reported did not get fixed, either, so I presume that
while the author still continues the development sporadically,
maintenance work takes a back seat.

Udo

Hi Roberto, Udo, et al.

Hmmm ... not sure I would agree with "whole HX seems to
be unmaintained". According to the HX download page :

v2.15, 01/2009, stable
v2.16, WIP, 06/2009, unstable
v2.14, 03/2008

So there seems to be periodic development of HX.

As regards JS and SSL - Yes, I think so, it's just a
problem of available time. For me, it's been very hectic
over the past year or so. Next month I'm getting married
so it's going to get even more hectic for a little while
yet. Hopefully when things settle down I may find a bit
of time to revisit the code.

I've just uploaded what I could find from Werner for
his JS code for Arachne. I think it's fairly complete
(source for the interpretor and patches for Arachne).

Joe.

Hi Roberto, et al.

Good question. The latest version I have is 8.16 (but I
haven't tried this yet; version 7.05 has worked fine for
me to date, so unless there's a reason to update to 8.XX,
this'll have to wait until I have a need or my curiosity
gets the better of me).

Anyway, any luck finding such a port? Last I heard (and
if I remember correctly), the 8.XX builds required the HX
extender to work. Do you know if that is still the case?

Joe.

Hi folks,

Well, it's time once more for me to visit my
family in Europe for a few weeks, so my access
to the 'net (and hence this group/list) will be
sporadic.

As always, Glenn, Ray and Greggy are able to
moderate this group should it be necessary (very
unlikely). Note that Ray has neglected to update
his e-mail address here, so you may need to
contact him directly if Glenn is unavailable.
Similarly, Greggy is not a frequent visitor,
so again, you may need to contact him directly
if required.

See you in September!

Joe.

Hi Roberto, et al.

Firstly, thanks for the great news that there is now
an open-source USB driver for DOS! :-)

I'll certainly be testing this, but not for a little
while yet (see my next post;-). Hopefully someone else
here will also be interested in testing this in the
meantime.

Joe.

Hi folks,

FYI, my (much neglected) Geocities web site will slowly
be migrating to a new host, as time permits. The new web
site will be at :

http://jds.atbhost.net/

The atbhost.net package seems quite generous, let's hope
they do well and continue with this for some time to come.

Joe.

Hi all,

Unfortunately, it's a sign of the times ... the venerable
Geocities will be closing in a few months time :

<Quote>
We're writing to let you know that Yahoo! GeoCities, our
free web site building service and community, is closing
on October 26, 2009.

On October 26, 2009, your GeoCities site will no longer
appear on the Web, and you will no longer be able to
access your GeoCities account and files.
</Quote>

If there's any content you've bookmarked at a GeoCities
site, don't forget to download it before the deadline.

Of course, my own (much neglected) Geocities site will be
migrated to a new host, I'll give more details when this
is finalized. (At least they've given a decent notice
period, unlike Hypermart some years back.)

Hi Ray, et. al.

Just visited your web page at http://rayandrews0.tripod.com/
and tried to download some files, yet all that I get is the
error message :
Sorry, but the page or the file that you're looking for is not here.

Any ideas? Anyone else have better luck?

Joe.

Hi Glenn, et al.

No, I don't have any specific APM's that I'm missing
(or that I think others may be missing). I was just
reminded by all this to ask about the availability
of the APM collection, given that MP has neglected
to retain this at his site.

As for the '-s' question, it seems no one has the old
"png2bmp" sources to look this up. The earliest version
I could find on the web was 1.52, but this doesn't have
a '-s' option. Oh well, at least the new version tells
us what options it has!

Joe.
