I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Cognitive and Neural Systems department at
Boston University, expecting to defend my thesis in August (i.e., 2003).
My research has focused on the application of analogies between graph
theory and vector calculus to the analysis of data associated with the
node set of a graph.  Specifically, this research was carried out in the
context of biologically inspired, space-variant machine vision, although
it is not tied to any notion of dimension, and therefore applies to
problems in data clustering, computer graphics, etc.  Since our department
was founded by Stephen Grossberg, I have necessarily had a lot of exposure
to neural networks, as well.  Our lab webpage (Computer Vision and
Computational Neuroscience Laboratory) is at http://eslab.bu.edu, if
anybody is interested (feedback is always welcomed).

Since my graduation date is rapidly approaching, I was wondering if
anybody reading this list was aware of job opportunities that might fit my
experience, had any constructive criticism of my resume or any general

traditional signal processing, pattern analysis, robotics, medical

To achieve fair trading and transparency in commercial
communications and transactions, effective complaint mechanisms
need to be established and involved in e-business activities. This
workshop aims at bringing together academics, researchers,
professionals and industrial practitioners to discuss issues
involved in modeling ontology of cross-border business regulations,
among other things focusing on complaint regulations.

We seek original contributions on the following issues of interest,

I just received my own PhD last month.  May be I could share my
opinion.

I worked on reinforcement learning but it is an old but useful topic
nevertheless.  Anything to do with medical research is hot these days.
   My experience of doing PhD on AI is that you better so something
more formal, analytical and mathematical rather than heuristic.

Independent component analysis is cool coz it can be applied to
medical imaging.  A huge issue of decision making is how to integrate
the information in different formats under one framework for
subsequent analysis.  Knowledge representation and XML may be
relevant.  Reinforcement learning is good for planning but too slow
for real time planning, may be a possible field here.

I am a new commer to the group, but not to AI. I guess
all of you are senior enough and an authority in AI to
advice me.


I am a Computer Engg. from Bombay University India, &
am immensely interested in AI. I have been
consistently trying to improve my grades in AI &
gaining some research experience. However, m not very
sure about whether all this will lead me to a good job
in AI in the near future, as there is no one to guide
me on the same. If anyone of you is willing to help
then I would gladly forward my resume for you to get a
clear picture of my history.

Another problem is that I have few ideas of applying
AI into Internetworking ( u all might be having
dozens!!!) ; one of them being what I call "Virtual
Companionship". This would be something like
Telepathy, but at a higher level where we can see
things actually happening. Although I think I have the
entire design of applying the things but donno where
to proceed from here; which platform & language will
help me realize this and most importantly who will
invest in a project of a realtive newcommer in AI!!!
If anyone would like to know what I am talking about,
I can explain it to you, to an extent.Please let me
know.
