I did something almost along the same line.
I place paper cones (like pyramids I guess) around the area. Apparently
it saps energy (it does if you put one under your bed. You wake up
nackered!)
The noise reduced to an extremely quiet noise.

Although, I also moved the bed head away from the bed. Then moved it
back with towels under the legs in case it was picking up reverberation
from something
and enhancing its effect.

I don't know. I can still hear it real quiet like, and it is continuous
but if I don't listen for it, I don't hear it.

Not sure what worked. Prefer to go for the practical but again,
experiences shy away from logic.

If it starts getting loud again, I'll definitely give the sage a go. :-)
