By the way there is an interesting comparison on the 40D and 50d at:

A related but slightly different topic is what camera do you intend to use this filter? Methane is in the NIR and many sensors have difficulty imaging in NIR....

Hi Richard, thanks, quite interesting. I'm planning to use a Canon 30D. It should work in the filter range. We'll try to take some Jupiter atmosphere pictures....

Hi Richard ... One can find methane emission line just in the NIR (= ~ 1-3 um). But one can find methane absorbtion lines already in the visual range at 544...
