been doing mostly visual observing for some time now, or planetary imaging with
my web cam but want to put my ST7XME to use again. Does anybody know the
exposure ratio for Astronomik Type II filters and SBIG ST E chip? I have seen it
discussed before but can't recall where. If I recall, this is best done with
exposure time, not number of images. Or, can it be done with the software
alone?

I believe there's software that will do the calculations for you. You can image
a G2V star then use the software to calculate the proper ratio. I have not done
it but that seemed to be mentioned a lot at the imaging conference this past
week. Anyway that'll give you a direction in which to look.
