Greetings,
On the occassion of the Environment Day on 5th June, 2009. amateur astronomers,
educators and naturalists have decided to hold a have planned a unique event of
having Candle Lights under Star Lights. Called Stars for Global Peace, this is
an event to promote Global Harmony and Peace.

The event will comply with the goals of IYA2009 as endorsed by the UNESCO and
IAU. The event is supported by Astronomers Withbout Borders, Sidewalk
Astronoemrs, StarPeace and UNAWE program.
The program begins with Paul Moss of New Zealand, who with his group of well
experienced amateur astronomers, accompanied with a rock band will have a
wonderful gathering at dusk. Groups from Japan, China & Indonesia will soon
follow.
Jayanta Acharya of Nepal will have a Talk progremme at TAkshashila Academy at 2
PM local time and a Star party at Takshashila Academy Bishal Nagar Kathmandu
between 6 to 7.30 pm local time.
In India, this program would be held at three places. The one at Ahmedabad would
be at GLS, Open Air Theatre, Law Garden, Ahmedabad 380 006 from 7.30 pm to 9.30
pm. The Star Peace program will beging at Bhuj from 8.00 pm to 9.30pm (IST) at
the Sumarasar Village. While the event at New Delhi is being conducted by CB
Devgun of SPACE. The details of which would be announced by him shortly.
Hassan and Khalid would he baving their events at Pakistan on the same day.
However Irene and Mohammed at Iran would be observing this program only on the
6th June in their country.
Other countries participating in this event include Iraq, UAE, Netherland, Oman,
Brazil, Canada, Uruguay, USA, Macedonia, Romanian etc.
Uruguay would be having a special program following the tragic death in a clash
between two basketball teams. So the teachers, parents and students plan to
light candles in shape of constellations in the memory of the two students who
dies just a few days ago.
Representatives of each countries would also be sending video messages on
astronomy, peace and harmony to each other, so that the same can be played
during the event. We have already received a wonderful message from Prof.
Jayanti Murthy of IIAP, Bangalore and another from Mohammad Torabi of Star Peace
Project, Iran. More videos from other countries are expected.
Where every possible, at the time of the event, the groups would try to get in
touch with each other either through video conference or directly telephonic
conversation. Some of the representatives would stand by to participate in video
conference in the benefit of groups in different time zones
Paul Moss of New Zealand also plans to ring six tube bells on the morning of the
6th June at 6 am. These bells will ring across the cyper express high way to
India, who in turn will also ring similar bells from Ahmedabad. This would be a
live video confernce between two different coutries in two different hemisphere.
