ASTRONOMICAL EVENTS FOR JULY 2009
July 4: Moon 3.5 degrees E-SE of Antares.
July 5: Venus lies about 7 degrees E-SE from Pleiades at 4:30am. Mars also joins
them and forms a trio.
July 7: Full Moon
July 10: Jupiter and Neptune are only 33’46” apart!
July 10: Waning Gibbous Moon (17.75 days old) is just 2.5 degrees N of Jupiter.
July 11: Mars 4.5 degrees SE of Pleiades at 4:00am.
July 13: Brilliant Venus is just 15’39” NW of 3.5 magnitude Epsilon Tauri.
Venus makes a nice scene with the Hyades star cluster.
July 14: Mercury Superior Conjunction
July 15: Last Quarter Moon
July 18: M45 within 1 degree from Waning Crescent Moon at 4:30am before dawn.
July 19: Waxing Crescent Moon is N-NW from Venus at 5:00am.
July 22: Total Solar Eclipse (at the time of sunrise).
July 22: New Moon
July 26: Saturn and Sigma Leonis will be just 18’ apart!
July 27: Moon 6.5 degrees W-SW of Spica.
July 28: Venus 0.5 degree NE from 3rd magnitude Zeta Tauri.
July 29: First Quarter Moon.
July 31: Waxing Gibbous (about 10 days old) Moon barely occults Antares at 9pm.
Antares will reappear from Moon’s North-western limb at 9:45pm.

Antares occultation is visible from Banagalore, 8:57 to 10:36pm Beginning of Pleiades occultation also is visible from Bangalore Shylaja Jawaharlal Nehru...
