Sorry gang;  I updated the CCA site calendar but overlooked this one!  It is updated now.

As I mentioned at the past meeting, due to the Howson library now being closed on Thursdays and the limited availability of Joe and me (mostly me!) on other days, the remaining meetings for 2008 will be:
  • Saturday,Nov 1, 10:00am-12:00pm, Howson library
  • Saturday, Nov 22, 10:00am-12:00pm, Howson library

Meeting details for 2009 have yet to be determined.

Mike

...as in social network.  What are they, why do I keep hearing about them, and what can they do for me?  We'll take a look... and don't worry about it getting too deep... I'm not that deep into them myself!  But I am starting to use them and hoping others will too.

You're likely using the Internet for various things, but how about in your screensaver?  Now you can have photos from anywhere on any subject that automatically change every day.

And while the Internet makes most everything go faster, there is one that will help your email go slower... whenever you say.

All this and more... on a Saturday morning, no less...

I searched "you tube +black screen" and found someone had the same
problem that I have experienced:

Hi, I got a problem, whenever i want to play a video, i click on the
video, then that takes me to the screen where it should start playing,
and everything loads right, because i see everything except the video
itself, all i get is a black screen, no audio. I don't even get a
button to press play or pause. its just a black rectangle. Ive
followed the suggestion to uninstall adobe flash, and then reinstall it
with the latest version..and then restart your computer. So iv done
all that and the problem still persists. and i know its not just the
site down because i can get on my main computer upstairs and watch
videos all day long. If you could help me that would be amazing, thanks

Anyone have any suggestions?

One of the forums said after Google acquired You Tube this was the result?

I've not had any issues, so won't be any help in that regard.

I would suggest changing your search slightly to:      youtube +"black screen"
(youtube as 1 word and black screen within its own quotes).

Other than that, have you tried another browser?  At least that could separate a
browser issue from a Flash issue.  Speaking of Flash, did their (Adobe's) sample
play correctly after you installed?

Mike

Remember my asking about failure to print google calendar and failure
to view Youtube?

As result of searching for unknown software exception oxc00004009..,
I learned that to view Youtube and print google maps I had to switch
Zonealarm cookie control off and ad blocking off and mobile code
control to off
Sooo.. my problem was recently created by installing update of
ZoneAlarm Pro.

A key file vsmon.exe was the culprit and a suggestion was made in a
forum to change the registry, but I decided not to do that

Nevertheless, both google calendar printing and viewing YouTube works
now, but I compromised part of Zone Alarm protection.

BTW, I submitted order through Amazon for Acer Aspire one with 160gb
and 6 hour battery. Now I am truly mobile! and may become qualified
for the wireless sig. : )

For those of you interested in television via the net (Sam, et al), here
is an interesting item.

A video podcaster, Jeff McArthur (some of you might know of his more
famous sister Amber) is going to discontinue his cable TV service... and
then report on what it's really like to get your programming solely over
the Internet.

He has set up a blog at decabled.com <http://decabled.com/> with an RSS
feed, so if you are interested, head over there and subscribe.

We haven't met in a while, but... "we're back"!

Google, Yahoo, Skype and more all have "new and improved" products out.
We'll look at those and any others that come to mind.

"Remember everything" is the goal of a program I've been using. It's a
crossover topic in that it runs on various OS'es, mobile devices, and
the web... and syncs them all too. Include clippings, photos, audio...
you name it... organize it easily... and find it again when you need it.

We'll check it all out at our new home, day, and time:

Tomorrow is our make-up date for the first Saturday having been on a

My topics this time will be "viewer submissions" passed along from other

Joe will explain IMAP and it's advantages over the POP3 that you're
likely used to hearing about and has some info on WiMax too.

Yes it's only been a week, but... it's time for another episode of the
Internet SIG!

We had plenty of discussion last time and talked about IMAP, so I still
have the toolbar discussion to cover. There have also been some other
interesting things in the news.

We touched on it, but am sure Joe will discuss more about WiMAx, the
new, fast, stationary and mobile, Internet access that will be coming to
the Austin area soon.

Hope to see everyone there.

Seems like we had some questions on toolbars last month that we didn't
get to, so we'll take a look at 'em... but not for too long since there
are plenty of other things to discuss.
Joe will have the latest news on the Wimax offerings from Clear. As you
likely know, they will offer stationary and mobile access to the
Internet - at significantly faster speeds than we've had available
before!
Then on to the c-c-c-changes (wonder how many of y'all remember the
song). Some of the social media sites have changes - and not everyone
is happy about 'em! And the big G (Google... bet you guessed!) has
several changed and new offerings... enough so that there should be
something for everyone.
Hope to see y'all there.
