Hi Puffball eaters,

It seems almost obvious, but I remember when the medical disorder from puffball
spores was being described (or published) and it had something to do with some
kids blowing spores into each other face. This is not an edible stage of the
puffball. Definately one should only eat young pure white specimens. These are
worthy of drying and using indoors no problem.

I enjoyed several times this spring grilled puffballs marinated with tamari and
basted with olive oil. I regard them as a tofu substitute.

The high Sierra was quite dusty on my last trip. Where the meadow and streams
are are quite wet yet but without the uplands fruiting I do not see any meritin
a hunt unless you are heading to central and souther sierran sub-alpine.
