Folks, here is a page I just found fyi:
I just looked through my pile of scrap transistors and found many of these exact fake transistors! Now that explains all the burn outs I had at times. Be careful if you buy from Futurlec or the guy on ebay. Note what this guys says about the costs of these transistors. You're not going to get the real thing for $2.50 each as I thought I was getting.
Note, that these will still work to some extent. But I bet if you open them up you will see a much smaller surface area than the real thing.
I found some other burn out transistors that I have with different date stamps that also appear to be fake. The legs are the same shape but they are not as smooth as
the genuine 25 I got from ON Semi directly. They look rather spotted and poor quality. If anyone has time, please look up the following dates for me on this ON MJL21194: CQ0426.
