Dear Yeshey
Good to hear you from forestry again. It is very good that some plantation strategy is being developed. It is also timely to look back and see, where we had made serious mistakes.
For one im sure is timing of plantation. The time of plantation in forestry is once the monsoon is set in only, this leaves us with limited time for the plant to grow and itself itself.
For accurate timing of plantation we need to look at the growth initiation ( time of active cell division) after growth ceasation. THat is to say vegeation period. Once we know this we should plan our plantation accordingly, and more over plantation of single area shoulddone be covered in single year by many species ( especially in broad leaved)should be done according to the species tolerance to different light conditions and thier characteritics such as decidous, evegreen has to be considered.
For example, bamboo and cane should be planted a month or earlier before the new off shoot initiatves its growth.
Likewise decidous species should be planted before the buds started brusting..
( I have few postings earlier too). And there host of other considerations such as best seeds collections, sound nursery management and also protection of natural seedlings while felling trees etc
This much for now.
Best regards
Purna
