Description

This group is intended to be a forum for the discussion and description of "homemade" or "enthusiast made" binocular mirror mounts for astronomical observation.

The binoculars In Binocular Mirror Mounts are usually fixed at a 45-degree angle DOWNWARD toward an altitude-adjustable first-surface mirror that reflects the sky into the binoculars. The device is often fixed to a turntable to control the azimuth.

The observer looks into the binoculars much like he/she would into a binocular microscope. The advantage of a binocular mirror mount is the comfortable viewing position; one can observe the sky overhead for hours without discomfort.

Now we have solved the discomfort issue of observing, but another problem raises its head: aiming the device. A number of methods are in stages of refinement, from laser pointers to altitude and azimuth setting circles/devices to even digital readouts.

Pictures and descriptions of BMMs and pointing arrangements are heartily invited.
