Welcome to BioMass, a listserver for the amateur naturalist. Dedicated to the flora and fauna of Massachusetts and its offshore waters, the main purpose of this list is the interchange of botanical and wildlife observations. It is also intended for the discussion of local issues - such as locations to view wildlife, foliage and bloom reports, reports of local rarities and unusual sightings, pelagic trip reports, legislative alerts, events and speakers in the area, and calls for volunteers in research and censusing activities. Hopefully, amateur naturalists, visitors to our area, and our local experts alike, will share their questions and knowledge through this mailing list. Together we can make BioMass a useful and educational forum, sharing information on a real time basis. From ferns, trees, and wildflowers, to butterflies, fish, herps, and mammals, this great state of ours encompasses an incredibly rich biodiversity. Let us open each other's eyes and share in its bounty.
