Re: [Biodiesel] Recovering methoxide from glyserin

when demething glycerine it is recomended that the glycerine be heated to 240f
for best results, this assures that the gly is no longer meth bound and is safe.
a report was done by Matt Steiman at dickenson college and confirmed by the epa.
i have been lucky enough to find an outlet for my soap at $2.00  a gallon .

Subject: [Biodiesel] Recovering methoxide from glyserin

I have noticed that after sitting for extended periods the gly by product
accumulates a layer of bio on top. I don't think that the bio existed when the
gly was first seperated. I rather think that the meth in the gly continued to
process the gly and formed the bio. Is this true?

I want to recover ALL the meth in the gly so I can make soap from it...safely. I
have heard it suggested to add new WVO to gly to improve the WVO in some way. Is
it viable to add the gly from the previous batch to the warmed oil and get the
meth reacted completely?

Thank you,

John

I do the glycerol pretreatment step and have great sucess. It allows me to make great bio with less KOH and less methanol. That is the advantage. You can...

The BD that you eventually find in the glycerine was in the drained glycerine since it came out of the reactor. There is also BD that gets drained out with...

Absolutely you can add your glycerin back to your oil. This is called pre-reacting the oil. It will do you two things, it will remove "most" (the methanol has...

Hello John, You do not make biodiesel from glycerine. The biodiesel you are seeing is in the glycerin layer when it settles. Tests have shown that the soap...

If you take it to 240 F, then you will indeed have all the methanol out of the glycerine.... but your methanol will have a lot of water in it and cannot be...

You will only get a meaningful amount of water out of the glycerine layer if you put it in. Distillation tests I performed showed that as long as you do not...

Eric, Instead of distilling twice you could jusst collect the distillate up to a point where 100 ml of distillate weighs 80 gms as you suggest and then change...
