YOu could also try used propane tanks... most in the junkyard are still good just not certified for the PRESSURE that propane builds up, 500 and 1000 gallon...

homedistiller doesn't cover making methanol, last I checked. methanol is usually made from petroleum, but could be made from destructive distillation of wood....

Yes, we use methanol, but not much of it, it doesn't end up in the final product, and much of it can be reclaimed for the next batch....
