Subject: conference: Exchange and interaction: the role of the Scheldt and
Meuse during the Bronze Age and the Iron Age
From: Ignace Bourgeois [ignace.bourgeois@...]
Dear Colleague,
The C.A.M. (Cell Archaeology of the Metal Ages) has been created in
september 1992. The initial idea was to set up a forum where recent
scientific research about the Bronze Age and the Iron Age in Belgium could
be presented and discussed. Therefore, a annual meeting is organised
alternatively in Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia. Researchers have the
possibility to present their results in short lectures or posters. Every
year, two international specialists are invited to give larger lectures
about their specific research. The papers are published in the series
"Lunula. Archaeologia Protohistorica" and presented during the meeting (see
http://allserv.rug.ac.be /~jbourgeo/cam.html).
Although the focus is on Belgium, the meetings became an international
meeting place for colleagues from Belgium, the Netherlands, England, France
and Luxemburg. Every year, more than 100 archaeologists from Belgium and
abroad participate in the meeting.
As the C.A.M. is organising its 10th meeting, an international symposium
will be organised on February 22dn 2002, in collaboration with the Royal
Academy "Koninklijke Vlaamse Academie van België voor Wetenschappen en
Kunsten".
The Contact Forum
"Exchange and interaction: the role of the Scheldt and Meuse during the
Bronze Age and the Iron Age"
aims at illustrating the theme by means of several lectures by well known
international archaeologists. Two round tables will confront their opinions
and ideas with those of Belgian colleagues and their research.
The lectures will focus on two large themes: daily life and dead. The first
theme will cope with aspects of settlements (typology, chronology,
organisation, setting, etc.), whilst the second theme will focus on
different aspects of funeral rites and of deposition. The contributions
start from a diachronic perspective and place the research areas in a
broader regional perspective. Attention will also be paid to the impact of
pedology, palynology, radiocarbon, etc.
The symposium is meant for an international public (researchers, students,
amateurs).
