Folks,
I finally got down to reading the latest 'Archaeology Ireland' (yes, I was THAT
busy...) and was taken by the front-page-featured article on ear spools. The
article,
by Mary Cahill of the National Museum, describes how she managed to link up a
couple
of sightings of modern-day body-pierced Irish people with the mysterious BA
'bobbins'
and 'boxes' which have produced, from reading the literature, as many theories
on
their purpose as there are examples of the things themselves.
The theory is, to me, beautifully simple and eminently plausible. I'd be
interested
in peoples' thoughts on this matter.
