CED-2 first impression   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #13668 of 14541 |
I just got my CED-2. These are my first impressions.

The CED scores well in fit and finish and seems solidly built.
I first held up my WO standard diagonal side by side with the CED-2
while looking at the moon with the unaided eye. The CED-2 in not
quite as bright as the WO, but I seemed more contrasty. I looked at
the sky background and the CED-2 showed a darker sky. Venus also
looked slightly dimmer too.

I set up my ZS-80 Achro "grab-n-go" scope and looked at the moon with
a 10mm ortho first with the WO noting violet fringing, brightness and
contrast. I then switched to the CED-2. The view showed a noticable
decrease in the violet fringing and the contrast seemed better. The
image was also not quite as bright. I took a quick look at Venus just
before it went behind the house and the results were about the same.

It appears to improve contrast as advertised at the expense of some
light. I will probably still use the WO when looking at "faint
fuzzies" were you need all the light you can get, but a this point,
for everything else the CED-2 looks like it will be a "keeper".

I will set up my BO-1278 during the next few nights and give it more
testing with more light and higher power. More to follow....
