Just got "my" (my daughter's) passports today. Sweet little binocs!
Much much smaller than my Canon 15x50is!

I no longer have great dark skies and I have very limited horizons,
but I can see straight up so I just laid down out back to spot M31.
Sweet, nicely framed, the large FOV is great.

I didn't stay out the full half an hour to get dark adapted. After a
few minutes I could see the nearby 3.85 mag star naked eye with avert
vision, and later on I could see it with direct vision. With averted
vision I could just glimpse M110 and this was from memory, I wasn't
sure which side of M31 it was on. (I just checked, I got it right!)

Any nits? Yeah, my vision sucks, I'm -8 in one eye, -9, in the other
and I cannot bring these to focus w/o my glasses. Not a show stopper
for me but disappointing. (My Canons just barely come to focus w/o my
glasses).

At this price, if you can't put a pair of these in your kit, or give
one to any of your kids, well, I don't know what's wrong with you...

Looking for a new home for my 30x180 Russian Binoculars. They are new (I took
them to a couple of Star Party)  My cost was over $3000 many years ago but I

I ordered the 8x42's for my teenage daughter. I do a lot of binocular
observing with my Canon 15x50is binoculars. (I have only ONE more
messier to go!) I was looking forward to the 12x70s, but these 9x63s
intrigue me. Will the 12x70s be considered hand holdable? How about if
you are sitting down? I don't want to go the tripod route but aperture
matters.

The 63s admit 58% more light than my 50s.  But the 70s admit about 96%
more light. I know, get them both but I can't. What do the experienced
binocular observers suggest?

George, I have a Skyshed POD which is 8 feet in diameter.  Without the optional
bays there would be room enough to sleep except for the ancillary equipment such
as computers, skychart table, stool, eyepiece case, DVD recorder, camera
support, etc.  It also depends on the scope you have inside.  With a tent you
most likely would have a tripod which takes up extra space.  My guess is that
you could possibly sleep in it, but you would be too cramped to be comfortable. 
I usually use my tent or other sleeping arrangements with my dome.  The tent
would be more portable than the POD for quick spur of the moment observing (I
think), and from Bill's description should be very quickly set up.  I would be
interested, also.

As a frequent user of Dobsonian telescopes and binoculars, I vote for between 4
and 5 feet.  Strictly my personal preference.  For those using SCT's and imaging
mostly overhead a higher wall probably would be more suitable.  What about an
option of different wall heights, perhaps enabled with telescoping wall
supports?  Then we could get the 6 foot wall height, lower the wall supports,
let the excess gather at ground level and be able to use it with 4,5, or 6 foot
walls depending upon the equipment being used.  If the opening in the top is
going to be zip out, there should be no problem with the roof hitting you in the
head.

Very solidly constructed, the end caps are well thought out.
Generous amount of eye relief, more than I need but should be good for people
who wear glasses. Nice twist up eye cups to compensate for the er. Crystal
clear, starts to get soft 85/90% outer fov. This is during low light clouded
skies. Very comfortable to hold a lot lighter than my 7x50's. Now gonna wait for
the sky to re-appear

I'm up to my neck in EP's. Frankly, offering the option of buying it w/o EP's
would be nice, too (though I know that changes the price; sorry).    :^/

I was able to change the wall height of the Astro Tent to 6' and with the
tiedowns you can reduce
the wall height on any or all of the side panels to suit. (Look for a pic in
minutes)

What about designing a tent that would be 6' high but have a zippered side(s)
allowing the height to be adjusted to accommodate the viewer, scope and weather?
