Uh-oh! It's an invasion from the Stellarvue forum. ;) I'll be doing a
side-by-side comparison with an AT1010 soon. I wasn't in the market
for another refractor, but this was too good a deal to pass up.
Sounds like it's going to be a well built scope.

Music and Astronomy seem to go together. Both have their gear
(G.A.S.) addictions. I'm a Strat and Tele guy myself. I'm not
familiar with the Gibsons that much, but it sounds like a real nice
vintage axe. I'm looking at getting another mount also. Something
more stable than a CG-3. I'm also a Dob owner (XT10).

Looks like Bill has created a real buzz with this $199 deal.
I ordered my 102 yesterday... hesitated all last week... thought I'd
better pull the lever.
I'll be comparing it to my Stellarvue 80/9D (750mm fl)... I'll make
sure I let everyone know how that goes. We'll be hearing about
the prototypes before then.

Hi all, I just ordered my Burgess 102 yesterday from Anacortes, it
was a bargain I couldn't pass up. I bought a Burgess 15x70 bino from
Bill about a year ago and I am very happy with it, it too was a major
bargain at $100. Bill is a nice guy and was very helpful before and
after my purchase. IMHO the 100 introductory 102's will go fast but
even at the post introductory price of $289 it still seems to be
priced way below other scopes of simular quality and size. Thanks for
this site, I look forward to hearing reports about the prototype, Tim
Just ordered one and have been looking for more info on it. I'll
wait for you guys to review the prototype. So far I like what I see.
Found out about this group from David Holt on Astromart.
Thanks!
Welcome to the group Anish. I suspect they're being made in
Knoxville, Tennesee, where Burgess Optical is located.

hi all,
I saw the postings in astromart and decided to join the group. I

Fantastic! Since I'm in the market for a good first scope, I would
love to see this "baby" before making a purchasing decision. Of
course, If it is as good as it sounds, (and I'm sure it is from what
I've read about Burgess Optics on the net) we may all be ruined for
other brands. Dave, please phone or e-mail me when the stork
delivers the "bundle of joy".
If customer service remains this good, I'm sure the group won't stay
small for long.

What a generous offer. I'd love to get look through it. I can hardly
wait for my turn. :) I'd like to show it off at my club's monthly
observing or public sessions. What size is the tube diameter on the
1026? If it needs more shipping protection, I have plenty of extra 1"
foam to wrap around it.

Hi Patrick,
Glad to see another future 1026 owner join the list. I see your
weight question has been answered pretty quick. My other main scopes
are an Orion XT10 (Guang Sheng model) and a Stellarvue AT1010. I'm
looking forward to the extra aperture and portability of the 1026.
It's always nice to have an extra scope to share for private and
public stargazing.

and rings.

Patrick,
Welcome to The BurgessRefractors group. Craig and I
also have a 1026 on order, we are looking forward to
using our new Acros.
I have a Ultima 2k and it also sits in it's case
because of the Metro Detroit Skies and the set up
time. I find that my Borg 76ED is used the most often
for quick looks and I hope the 1026 will get used as
often.
Don't forget to look at Comet NEAT the next couple of
nights, wonderful auwsome in my 12x63s last night just
north of PI Aqu.
What do you plan to mount the 1026 on? How long have
you been observing? Craig and I are very involved in
our clubs and community education programs. Do you
belong to a local club? Where did you find out about
the 1026?
Bill has been great with his email answers and support
of this group. It looks like he is putting together a
product of great quality for us.
Again Welcome and Good Viewing,

Hello everyone,
I found out about this group from Mr. Burgess when I got myself on the
list for a 102mm Refractor. I currently have a 4 1/2" Newtonion and a 10"
LX200. Where I live the 10" is not feasible to set up and is a pain to lug
out to a site for a short session and the 4 1/2" is great for some quick
peeks. But I think this refractor will make a nice addition to my arsenal.
BTW, I'm right next to New Haven, CT & I95 & RT1, so there is real bad
light pollution here.

Thanks,

Hi Craig
In a Telescope objective there is a power element, this element is
very important
in the control of secondary color as well as most other aberrations. When you
use a
four element design you can have two power element and each has to be only
half as strong. The results are quite striking when you view thru a four
element design of the same F ratio as a two element objective. Incredibly
flat fields with pinpoint images out to the very edge, even in fast F ratios.
I hope this helps.
Bill Burgess
Welcome Craig and Mark,
I plan to mount mine on a CG-4 or CG-5 that I already
own. The CG-5 is from a CR150 f/8 and has Oak legs,
I'm sure it will be rock solid. The CG-4 is from my
Orion Starmax 127, I often use it over 200x and I
expect it to be fine with a wide field scope like the
1026.
Thanks for joining the group. I've have sent a Q&A to
Bill that may answer many of your questions. He will
post it soon I'm sure.

Hi Mark, I was told by Anacortes that it would be March before

wondering about a mount also. I've got a CG-3 but it's probably

telescope.I'm considering a wide view Orion Astroview 120mm Short

Bill, I've reviewed your site, and Dave indicates the 1026 would be a

Are there still 1026 scopes available at the discounted price?
Uh-oh! I think I hear the sound of a future hole in my wallet
beginning to opening up. ;) That's quite a line-up of refractors.
Being somewhat of an optical dummy, I have to ask, what does a quad

I personally did not start this group, but I will support it with
product information
and first looks at new products. The 1026 is just the first in new line of
Burgess
refractors. We will have 127 mm,153 mm, Quad lens 102mm, Quad 125mm and a

Thank You

Hi! I just ordered the 102mm f/6 yesterday from Anacortes and then
found the Burgess Optical website. A few minutes ago I found this
discussion group. I know nothing about the Burgess Optical telescopes
and I'm looking forward to receiving mine next month sometime. A 4
inch achromat w/ 2" diagonal and rings for $200 is too good a deal to
turn down even if there's a little wait involved. Will the
owner/builder of these scope be participating in this forum?

Hi All,
Welcome to the Burgess Refractor Group!
After many emails with Bill Burgess, I placed my order for a new
102mm f6 Acro with him on January 30th, 2003
Bill was great to communicate with and answered all my questions. I
hope to post some of the answers after I get Bill's approval to do
so.
I created this group so we could exchange ideas, modifications,
accessories, observations, and any thing else that may help enhance
our enjoyment of our Burgess Refractors.
Please feel free to invite others to join us.
Clear Skies,
