Earlier week notice with instructions on downloading the free
upgrade to version 5.6 of CD Czar was emailed to all who purchased
the unlimited version in the past, regardless of when purchased.
Dozens of notices were returned because the email address used

For other than CD, click the "Add Other" button in the green Manage

at least the artist or title. For more info see the help file entries

Version 5.1 of CD Czar has just been released, and the AMG site is
again available by following the new color-coded instructions for the
site. This choice comes up when you click Add Other, or when you
click Add CD when the CD in your drive is not in Freedb's database.
Version 5.1 also adds an option to use UPC bar code search. You can
either type in the UPC, or scan it with :cue:cat. Yes, that's the
cat shaped scanner that was given away through Radio Shack a few
years ago. Now you'll finally have a use for it! Before using
the :cue:cat with CD Czar, check out this help page:
http://www.zipcon.net/~highroad/CDCzar/scan.html
Next week all registered users, regardless of when purchased, will
receive instructions on how to download a free upgrade to this new
version 5.1.

The All Music Guide site (AMG) mentioned on the screen that comes up
when you click on "Add Other" seems to no longer support the method
described for use with it, so please use one of the othter sources
listed for now. We complied completely with their terms of use, so
are disappointed they did this, but I guess it's their site and they
can do whatever they what. Any updates to this situation will be
posted in this forum.

Hi Larry,
Although CD Czar doesn't have a specific function to read cD-Text,
since you have Nero you can just read that info with Nero and "copy
and paste" it into CD Czar after clicking the "Add Other" button.
Kinda the reverse of what I suggested before! I lifted the following
instruction from the Nero manual:
"6.5.6.2 Viewing CD-Text information
Insert an Audio CD into the recorder.
Select the Save Tracks option from the Recorder menu and choose the
drive you require.
Now view the information you want in the `Title' and `Artist'
columns."

Hi Robert,
I was able to link to Albums.dbf using the "Visual Foxpro Tables"
Machine Data Source and selecting the ID field as the unique
identifier. The browser function for selecting the source directory
was broken for me. Typing the path name fails and the folder list in
the browser does not update when I scroll but I was able to select
the correct source folder 'cause the names on the list changed as I
selected them. This issue may be specific to my graphics card...
For what ever reason this link proceedure did not function at first
but true joy was fully realized subsequent to reboot ritual.. face
Redmond, say 10 ODBC's and all hail the Bill.
Thank you sir. Looks like I'll buy into your CDzar. At least until I
get into development of a direct freedb link myself. I do wish you
would move on to Access though!

I found these instructions at the Microsoft Support Site at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q225861
I have copied the pertinent part below. PLEASE LET ME KNOW if this is
confusing or difficult, if it is I will go ahead and create the
utility to make a memo-less copy of Albums for Access 2000 ("Notes" is
the memo field in the Albums file, by the way). If I don't hear from
you, I will assume the information below is sufficient and won't
create the utility. As I said before, I don't have a copy of Access
2000 so can't evaluate it myself. Thank you very much for alerting me
to this problem with Access2000, and here are the Microsoft
instructions:
ACC2000: No Option to Import, Link, or
Export to the FoxPro File Type
The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft Access 2000
This article was previously published under
Q225861
This article applies only to a Microsoft
Access database (.mdb).
Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and
interoperability
skills.
SYMPTOMS
In the Import, Export, and Link dialog boxes
in Microsoft
Access 2000, FoxPro is not listed as an option
for file type.
CAUSE
The Microsoft FoxPro ISAM driver is no longer
included with
Microsoft Access.
RESOLUTION
To import from, link to, and export to
Microsoft FoxPro, use the
Visual FoxPro ODBC driver, as demonstrated in
the following
steps.
Import from FoxPro
Click Start, point to Settings, and then
click Control
Panel.
In Control Panel, open the ODBC Data
Sources (32-bit)
tool, and add a new ODBC Data Source for
your FoxPro
database or tables by selecting the
appropriate Microsoft
Visual FoxPro driver.
Open the Access database that you want to
import into.
On the File menu, point to Get External
Data, and then
click Import.
In the Import dialog box, click ODBC
Databases in the
Files of type list.
In the Select Data Source dialog box,
select the Visual
FoxPro data source that you created in
step 2, and then
click OK.
In the Import Objects dialog box, select
the tables that
you want to import, and then click OK.

Hi Jim,
During the first week of the new year we will be sending an email to
all registered users with the link to obtain the latest version. We
are planning one more minor enhancement before then.
Thank you for registering CD Czar.

When you click Add CD and it's not in the Freedb database, a form
should come up to search other sites. The best is the AMG site, it is
rare they don't list a CD. Just follow the color-coded instructions
for AMG and you still won't have to type in all the tracks, all you
have to do is find the album at AMG and follow the instructions.
Merry Christmas!

I have a number of CDs that have a text table of contents that
Windows Media Player reads and displays, but that are not in the
online database. ini2czar.exe does not detect them in the
cdplayer.ini file. Is there a way to easily transfer this
information to CDCzar, short of cutting and pasting each track
individually?
Thanks,
Terry
Yes, on the Edit Form click on "Edit Notes".
You will then see buttons for "Add Extended Data"
for both the album as a whole and for individual tracks.
Adding the extended data in this way will cause it to be included if you
submit the data to the the remote database if this is an album not already
there.
After you have entered the extended data,
you can see it at any time on the main screen
by highlighting the desired album in the grid
and clicking on the "info" button in the yellow toolbox.
For more detail on these tasks, see the on-line help file at:
http://www.zipcon.com/~highroad/CDCzar/CDhelp1.html
Thanks, and write back if you have any further questions or problems.

If you haven't done so already, on CD Czar's main screen click the Tools
button for Options and choose HTTP protocol.
CD Czar uses proxy information from IE (Internet Explorer) Version 5 or
later (get free update from Microsoft's site if necessary), so be sure
your proxy settings are correctly setup there (Tools|Internet
Options|Connections|LAN Settings). If you must enter a
user name and password on your intranet, check the "authentication
required" option, otherwise leave it unchecked (if in doubt, try with
unchecked first).
As for your second question, depending on the third party product use
Open or Import go get Access or Excel to read CD Czar's Foxpro style
dbase files. You can see what information each file has from this URL:
http://www.zipcon.com/~highroad/CDCzar/files.html
Hope this helps.

I have two questions:
I am using CD Czar behind a firewall and get the error message on
start up. However, everything appears to be working OK. Is there
something missing that I haven't noticed?
How do I get Microsoft Access or Excel to be able to read the
database?
Thanks.
Please try again, being sure you perform EACH of the following steps in
order:
1. After you find your album, click the link (which will be a
Hexadecimal number) on the line right under "genre" that begins with
"ids:".
For example, an album shows this line: ids: folk / e50f1a0f
so here you would click on "e50f1a0f". This is the step most often
overlooked.
2. When that page shows up, press the ctrl-A key combination (or
Edit|Select All from the menu bar). The entire page should now be
highlighted.
3. Now press ctrl-C (or Edit|Copy from the menu bar) to copy it to the
clipboard.
4. Go back to CD Czar (alt-tab) and press OK. It should now work. Let
me know if it doesn't.
Just to be sure - are you using the normal Windows clipboard that comes
with Windows, or have you installed some third party replacement? If
so, please let me know what it is.
Thank you for trying CD Czar.

I really like the ability to find a album by name in freedb, then
copy it to the clipboard, then import all the info into CDCzar. I
have probably 200 albums I've copied to CD's that I could use this
feature for (and yours is the only program I've found that offers
this feature - I tried 6 just yesterday!). However, I can't get it to
work. I can see all the information in the clipboard using clipboard
viewer, but when I hit OK in CDCzar, it says "WEbpage has not been
copied to the clipboard", and when I hit OK, the clipboard viewer
shows that the clipboard has been erased.
I'm using Windows 2000 and version 1.6 of CDCzar. It is also the eval
version; if this isn't going to work, I won't buy it. If it does, I
will!
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

CD Czar connects to Port 8880, so try to convince whoever
manages your firewall configuration to open port 8880.
I hope this helps.

Visit our website, address below, to get this latest version.
CD Czar now plays MP3 or other audio files as seamlessly as it plays
CD tracks in your database.
There were also some other improvements, so check it out!
