Hi Herb!!!
YES!!!! PLEASE save me a '138!!!! I'd love to have one in my
collection... Not only that, I have one place I collect that has a SUPER
high background level: I've measured upwards of 50 mR/Hr in spots, but
5-10 mR/Hr is typical. It's HOT, but there are obviously lots of goodies
there in addition to Pitchblende sand. It would be interesting to see how
much of a dose I get collecting...
Best Regards!!! Tom
Herb!
I sure appreciate your intention of saving a future CD V-138 for me. If I
ever see more than a picture of a CD V-718 I'll remember you, especially if
there is more than one!! I've never seen one for auction or for sale
anywhere.
Regards,
Marshall
Hi everyone,
Sorry about the mistake I made calling the CD V-730 and CD V-740 a
CD V-130 and CD V-140. I will have more CD V-138's comming in (I will
have 6 total). I will check them and save you one Marshall. You too
Tom if you want one. Sorry to hear about the hits your loop took.
I hope that it didn't get inside your radio.

Hi Herb!!!
Glad you got the 138!!!!! It is a VERY uncommon dosimeter, you've done
well!!!! I've seen 200 R/Hr and 600 R/Hr CDV models, but I've never run
across any of the low range 138 units...
I'm not familiar with the digital Radiac units: Are they Military? I'm
not surprized to see folks going digital, but I still prefer analog.
Gotta run... Need to do chores: My 600' loop took a couple of hits this
week, and I need to splice it and get the Johnson 500 back on the air.
Best Regards!!! Tom

Hi Herb!
When you posted on 99/10/27 you referred to a CDV-142 dosimeter. Do you
have such a unit, or did you mean 742? The references to 130 and 140 are
interesting as I have seen the same ranges called 730 and 740.
I wouldn't know how to figure your chances of finding a digital meter. Any
feeling for my finding another milli-roentgen 138?
Regards,
Marshall
Hi everyone,
I have recieved the CDV-138 and it reads 0-200 milloroentgens. To me it a
uncommon dosimeter, because mst of them that I have seen read either 0-20
(CDV-130), 0-100 (CDV-140) or 0-200 R) CDV-742. Please let me know if there
is any other dosimeters to look out for. Also, what are the chanses of finding
the digital radiac meter.
best regards (73)

I'm new to the list... saw reference to it while
poking around listings on eBay.... on a lark ended up
buying the following:
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=176979523
(and now following the list to see what I have).
Thanks for all your posts and the links provided to
sites such as http://members.aol.con/allnilo/index.htm
While I don't have much to contribute in the way of
CDV technical know-how, I do have a site that may help
you if you plan to use eBay. I teach computer skills
on the college level and was asked to do a community
presentation on internet auctions a few months back.
Here are the notes:

Hope they're helpful to someone :-)

Hi everyone,
There is a CDV-138 dosimeter (which I was told by the seller that it
is the mR version) on Ebay right now. It ends on 4 November 99 at 20:27.
Check it out. Also does anyone know why the CDV-720 makes a high pitch
buzzing sound. I have two (2) of these units and both of them do the same
thing.

Hi everyone,
I need to know who makes or made (model # also) a geiger counter that will
detect 50mR
and up. Also, I would like to know if switching out the ion chamber in the
CDV715, 17
or 20 with a CDV700 ion chamber would it detect low level radiation. Just an
idea.
Thanks
Herb

Hi Folks!!!
This website was brought to my attention today: I've checked it out, and
it offers good info on the pitfalls of buying older, tube type &
scintillator geiger counters, as well as practical info on measuring the HV
in counters (for those that don't have access to lab grade type test
equipment!).
I've listed it as a link on our site for everyone's convenience.

Hi everyone,
The NDS homepage can be found at: www.ndsproducts.com/radiationdetec.html
They have a wide variety of dosimeters. Check it out.

Hi Folks!!!!
I've had a request for battery requirements for the Sears "Tower" brand model
6159 geiger counter..... Anybody know what batteries they use??? My guess was
Eveready 467's and 412's... A schematic would be nice, too (More fodder for my
book!!!)....
Thanks!!!! Tom
Hi Folks!!!
Looks like everything just collects, and although the messages go out
immediately via email, the Archive to here a day later.....
I'm outta here!!! I need to sort though some mica I found last week:
It's shot through with micromount Monazites, Uraninites, Gummites, and
Clarkeites... Sort of like Christmas come early!!!!!
Best Regards!!!! Tom.........
Hi Herb!!!
Got it!!! Try NSD Products..... Pasadena, TX. 1800-413-4750... A 0-200
mR unit is part # SEQ5-0.2R... Wholesales for $80, retails for $120 (as of
1996)... They look like they'll charge off a CDV-750 charger....

Hi Herb!!!!
I've seen 50 mR dosimeters in one of my catalogs, I forget if it was LND,
or one of the others. Most dosi's run about $100-120.... I'll look for you,
and report back!!!! I remember there WAS a CDV- series low range dosi,
but I've never seen one. They must be the ultimate collectible!!!
Best Regards! Tom

I want to welcome everyone to the CDV-700 Club!!!! If you're into
collecting/tinkering with/modifying/collecting with geiger counters, this is the
place for you!!!!
I've spent the last several months on Ebay running into many. many wonderful
like minded folks, and I knew something was missing, namely, a place where we
could all come together, and share our interests. Then, I remembered ONELIST,
and here we are!!!
I am just proficient enough with computers to get myself into difficulties, so
I'm sure this community/email list will get off to a rocky start... Please bear
with me while we work out the bugs, and get the ball rolling...
Thank you for coming here, and enjoy!!!
Best Regards!!! Tom Herman
