Hi
Sorry for late reply. you have to press and hold the key on the straight line icon on right panel and it will open, then there are all of the options for drawing lines in GAMBIT. There is another method that is used for airfoils which is by adding a lot of point and then straightly connecting them to each other, this may seems a little ugly but it is thoroughly accepted in literature even for accurate works. I guess if your curve dont be a part of circle you have to take the second way.

Thank & bye

hi,

for curve geometries like airfoil or turbine blade in gambit is difficult to draw if it is not arc of a circle. when drawing a curve in gambit, we have to either specify three points on arc or by center and two points on the circle, but airfoil is not a single arc so the way is, draw the geometry in cad software like proe or autocad or solid work then generate the coordinate of the point required for gambit as told earlier this will generate accurate geometry other direct method may approximate the geometry in gambit..

the other method may be complex for a beginner, save the cad geometry in iges format and import the vertex data in gambit, this is fast process but may have problem in big geometries.

hope this may help you..

hi,

for curve geometries like airfoil or turbine blade in gambit is difficult to draw if it is not arc of a circle. when drawing a curve in gambit, we have to either specify three points on arc or by center and two points on the circle, but airfoil is not a single arc so the way is, draw the geometry in cad software like proe or autocad or solid work then generate the coordinate of the point required for gambit as told earlier this will generate accurate geometry other direct method may approximate the geometry in gambit..

the other method may be complex for a beginner, save the cad geometry in iges format and import the vertex data in gambit, this is fast process but may have problem in big geometries.

hope this may help you..

 Three Day Seminar on

"Vehicle Dynamics and Safety"

Organized by

M. S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies

Date: 17th, 18th & 19th December 2009
(Thursday, Friday & Saturday)

Venue: M. S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies, Bangalore

About the Seminar:

Be it a Formula Race, Car Race or a Motor Bike Race enthusiast building a vehicle or a family person looking for a family transport, few aspects of the vehicle play a major role in the selection of the vehicle. These are stability, maneuverability and safety. The design aspects for these are based on Vehicle Dynamics and design principles for Safety. To give an in-depth knowledge in these two areas, Vehicle Dynamics and Safety, a three day seminar has been planned for engineering students, vehicle users and practicing engineers.

Vehicle Dynamics is concerned about the response of the vehicle to the forces that act at four palm sized patches between the tyres and the road. The response metrics are performance, handling and ride and a vehicle is designed and built to meet theses metrics. Study of Safety, as related to vehicles, concerns itself with the potential impacts between two vehicles and/or between occupant or pedestrian and a vehicle, and resulting damage/injury to the vehicles and humans.

On the first two days Vehicle Dynamics metrics will be defined and analyzed and on the last day safety aspects will be dealt with. In Vehicle Dynamics, the topics that will be covered are Fundamentals of Load Transfer, Tyre Dynamics, Acceleration and Braking Performance, Ride, Suspension Dynamics and Vehicle Handling. Presentation on Safety will focus on the phenomena and Physics of collision, resulting forces and human kinematics, injury biomechanics, management of crash energy and forces through structural and system designs.

Objectives:

• To explain fundamental governing principles of Vehicle Dynamics and Safety design
• To elucidate the physics involved in vehicle dynamics and collision
• To demonstrate the use of simulation tools replicate these phenomena
• To discuss practices for improved design for improved ride, handling and safety

Who should attend?

·        Engineering Students, Faculties

·        Automotive design engineers : Ride comfort, NVH, Handling, Occupant & Pedestrian safety, Structural design, Interior design

Dear Teguh,
As far as I know k-w is used for modeling turbulence flow through complex geometries. Yes, controlling Y+ on wall is not easy, but again its the only solution. If you are using some turbulence model you should try to closely match its Y+ requirements or at least the deviation from standard y+ values must not be very large, how large?, its another question.
Another Solution to your problem could be use of some other turbulence model. Like k-e or S-A. k-e has a y+ requirement of 30-300 and S-A has a y+ requirement of 0<y+<1 or 30<y+. If you could elaborate your problem a bit it would get more easy to suggest some more close and possible solution.

Awais

Dear CFDBible Member;

The CFDBible committee calls for the CFD picture of the month.
Interested individuals or organizations can contribute self
owned or courtesy pictures, all are welcome.

The picture should show a demonstrative solution for a
relatively complex problem. All applications are welcomed.
The contributer can put his/her name and/or organization on the
picture as publicity. He/she can, optionally, mention
the used software and visualization package. It will also be
better to give some info about the problems physics to gain
the viewer interest.

The picture should be in JPG, PNG, GIF, or BMP formats
with good size and resolution of course. All contributed
pictures will be filtered by the committee and the resulting
collection will be polled on by all the group members.

Please send your pictures to: CFDBible@...
or to the CFDBible group at : CFDBible@yahoogroups.com

Finally, we don't have to tell you that CFDBible committee
is very open minded for all members' ideas.
