Graham here. We've now firmly settled into Rainy December, which rather resembles Rainy November except that there's less daylight! So, not much outdoor activity for me, and a chance to catch up on some admin work.
First off, though, I've updated the CFZ site with the following items....
FORTEANA: Paul Haresnape's Weird Winkleigh, pt 3 CFZ PRESS: November's bestseller lists CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Richard Muirhead finds a poem about the Dragon of Wantley CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Lindsay finds an article about cryptozoology... CFZ: Jon muses on death and dying in the wee small hours CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Dale Drinnon presents a compelling paper on the identity of manbeasts FORTEAN: From Robert Schneck, a bizarre picture story about an exceedingly lucky coyote CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Lindsay looks at Manx mermaids CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Richard Muirhead examines one of my favourite North American cryptids - the unknown species of giant, pink salamander AMATEUR NATURALIST: The charity fish auction - this is what we missed CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
A quiet day. A day of reflection. Everyone is doing their own thing peacefully and quietly. I don't know what I am going to do yet, but it won't be much..
CFZ: An open letter from Jon to everyone who has been so kind in the last few days CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Glen Vaudrey is back with a goat eating giant crab CFZ PRESS: A special offer from Karl Shuker CFZ PEOPLE: Corinna displays her heartless side CFZ AUSTRALIA: In the press CONSERVATION: Good News for Belugas CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Beast of Busco CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
My heart is very heavy today because after months of unbelievable suffering, Marjoriw Braund - the lady who for many years has been like a second mother to me - finally succumbed to multiple cancers at 6:30 this morning. Forgive me therefore if I don't write anything jolly about the bloggo today.
CFZ PEOPLE: Our hearts are heavy today because after months of suffering, Marjorie Braund died this morning NATURAL HISTORY: Corinna and Old Nog CFZ PEOPLE: Jon is in the wars again silly sod CRYPTOZOOLOGY/CONSERVATION/NATURAL HISTORY: Lawrie Williams talks prospecting, yowies, giant eels, and water snakes CFZtv: On The Track episode 27 is finally out CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today and the return of the Credit Crunch Crabs
Cold, grey and damp. That is North Devon in the winter. After the torrential rain last week we brought Jerry the Jackdaw indoors until the spring. I know that in the wild he would stay outside, but there isn't enough cover for him, and he is too tame to really know how to shelter from the storm. However, unlike my much missed mynah bird, he doesn't sing and I am no longer awakened by the sound of birdsong but by a weird grating noise that sounds like the wheel bearings are going on a tractor. My nephew Ross has been breeding canaries like there was no tomorrow, and he has offered me some. In the sapringtime, when Jerry goes outside again, I think I will take him up on his offer..
CFZ: Are things getting back to normal? Well sort of ANIMAL HUSBANDRY: More zookeeper humour with another from the collection of amusing zoo signage that Jon got from somewhere and cannot remember where CRYPTOZOOLOGY etc: More flashes from Muirhead's archives of oblivion. Roy Harper reference - YAY!. CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Redders revisits the Man Monkey, but so does someone else. CRYPTOZOOLOGY: The Warners are back, with more claims of a minhoaco incident. NATURAL HISTORY: A lake monster in Thailand? Well sort of. Lindsay explains CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
Well, we are back, albeit a bit shakily. Our telephone and email access is patchy, but better than yesterday. However, I have several days backlog to deal with now, so please forgive us if we are slow in replying to your letter. Also, a big THANK YOU to Karl Shuker for saving our bacon...
CFZ: As part of our ongoing economy drive the CFZ say goodbye to Myrtle the Turtle CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Dale Drinnon takes a look at Mothman and Owlman CRYPTOZOOLOGY: There's a bigfoot near San Antonio says Ken Gerhard FORTEAN ZOOLOGY: More Muirhead Musings and Miscellanea CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Richard Freeman takes issue with Alan's octopus BLOGGO: Thank Yous are in order CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
The Lord alone only knows whe you will actually get this email because both my ISP and BT are playing silly buggers this morning. But there are indeed blogs:

CFZ PEOPLE: Lisa Dowley is recovering . CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today .
Although the trees are bare, and the blue tits are coming more frequently than ever to the feeder outside my office window, it is beguilingly sunny, and it is hard to believe that we are in wintertime. However, every night the winds howl through the trees, and the gale threatens to take our roof off (although it hasn't done so yet, and it is mostly my paranoia which makes me think this is going to happen). Today has been a pretty horrible day so far, and looks set to get worse. I see the surgeon for more tests this afternoon, and both Marjorie and Noella are pretty poorly. But we have blogs to console us:
CRYPTOZOOLOGY: According to CFZ Australia, panthers are on the prowl. CFZ: The bad news continues as we pull out of the charity fish auction next weekend. SILLINESS: A man in a chicken suit and a Bob Dylan quote. Sounds pretty good to me. CLIMATE CHANGE: Richie West, a man for whom I have the utmost respect, posts a blog which is bound to cause controversy CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Dale Drinnon re-examines one of cryptozoology's most sacred texts and finds it wanting. Is this an act of bravery or of apostasy? CFZ: Oll Lewis has a good old moan, and believe it or not, Jon agrees. CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis brings us Yesterday's News Today.
In just over three more weeks the evenings slowly begin to get longer. Thank God for that. Winter is not my favourite time of year, and I am counting the days until it is over. In the meantime here are blogs:
CFZ: Jon explains why stuff isn't happening as fast as we all would like CFZ ARCHIVING PROJECT: Part 15 of the BHM Archives CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Paul Cropper sends us a peculiar yeti story from the archives CONSERVATION: More Zookeeper humour with peculiar exhibit signs FORTEAN: Neil Arnold has a particularly peculiar tale to tell of a Grotesque Stickman NATURAL HISTORY: Only a week to go until the livebearer auctions in Redditch. CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
Not a nice day. Bad weather and power cuts. Fuel bills and roadworks. On the plus side, both stepdaughters with their splendid young men are here, and Corinna is cooking cheesecake. There are good sides to every story..
CFZ PEOPLE: Marjorie and Noela CFZ PEOPLE: Lisa Dowley CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Lindsay's Loch Ness archive ANIMAL WELFARE: Lanette Baker wants your help FORTEAN: Regan Lee on cattle mutilations CFZ PEOPLE: Ronan gets fowl CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
Last night was the worst thunderstorm I have knownn, and it seemed to be immediately above the house. There were several powercuts, but luckily none of the animals were harmed. Graham is back in the UK and will be arriving later today as will Livvy and Ivan. Shosh and Gavin arrived in the wee small hours, so we have (or will have) a veritable houseful..
CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Richard Muirhead unearths an interesting early Chinese reference to one of the more contentious Indochinese cryptids NATURAL HISTORY: Another amusing bit of zoo signage NATURAL HISTORY: Diving waterfowl in Shagtown. But are they cormorants? Sadly not CFZ PEOPLE: Neil Arnold meets George Noory CFZ ARCHIVING PROJECT: Part 14 of the BHM Archives CONSERVATION: More news from the Center for Biological Diversity CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
Cold, wet and windy. Thursday seems to be following the pattern of the winter so far. The wind is almost unrelenting and can be so noisy as to keep you awake for much of the night. Its all change today. Lizzy is going back to Lancashire, and Shosh (hopefully accompanied by Gavin) will be arriving either tonight or tomorrow. Graham was supposed to be back as well, but he caught the ferry from the Isle of Man yesterday but was forced to turn back because of the horrible weather in the Irish Sea. Where will it end?
CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Muirhead visits a dragon farm NATURAL HISTORY: Sostratus is back. But what is he banging on about? Shirehorses apparently NATURAL HISTORY: An amusing sign from a zoo in Thailand POLITICS: The Center for Biological Diversity highlight another political issue of potentially enormous importance CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Dale Drinnon has a bold theory regarding the boobrie NATURAL HISTORY: The new issue of Herpdigest is out CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
It is cold, grey and windy. However it is not as windy as it has been, and we do not seem to have sustained any structural damage. And in three or four weeks the nights get shorter again. In the meantime there are bloggo updates:
CRYPTOZOOLOGY: The boy Friswell does it again with a vintage Freaky Feature about Sea Serpents CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Richard Muirhead looks at Austalian lake monsters CFZ PEOPLE: Lizzy Clancy is going home tomorrow CFZ PEOPLE: Yes it is true, cats CAN drink cider. Well they can according to Davey Curtis CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Lindsay Selby has a quick gander at a mostly forgotten moment of Loch Ness history CFZ PEOPLE: Bloody hell, Jon's being nice about the NHS CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
Another day of cold grey yuckiness, and I prepare to do battle with the forces of the Disability Services on behalf of Noela. She is, by the way, supposed to be coming out of hospital in a few days, but I shall believe it when I see it. Watch out world, Jon Downes is on the warpath and he has a psychotic gleam in his eye. Oh yes, and by the way there ARE blogs (and Oll's joke was particularly good this morning):
CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Muirhead's Mysteries has a gander at Steller's Sea Cow CFZ PRESS: Corinna announces a new and interesting feature for Animals & Men. She is certainly a high flyer! CFZ PEOPLE: Kithra's back CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Lindsay Selby revisits the Pembroke Dock sea monster FORTEAN: Paul Haresnape brings us another dose of Weird Winkleigh NATURAL HISTORY: More on the new cichlid mag CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with a disarmingly funny story and Yesterday's News Today
A jolly and fun-packed day of hospitals and doctor's surgeries lies before me. I would rather not talk about it, so read the bloggo instead:
CFZ PEOPLE: A tale of two old ladies CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Karl Shuker looks at the nomenclature of some Asian monster-haunted lakes CRYPTOZOOLOGY: A new mystery animal show on New Zealand radio. But don't worry guys. If you are elsewhere in the globe you can still hear it CFZ PEOPLE: Lindsay Selby with a feline update. Mystery Cat eh? NATURAL HISTORY: A smashing new journal about cichlids is now available CFZ PEOPLE: Lizzy is a cheeky young whippernsapper CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
Sunday presents a cheerfully domestic scene. Jon, Liz and Corinna are all hard at work over red hot keyboards, Oll is feeding the animals and Jon has just agreed to lend his car to Alan and Jennie so they (and Liz) can go to Mass. On another tack we are very late with the blog today due to a mixture of cat shenanegans and a lengthy phone call from the good Doctor S in Ireland. Business as usual really:
CFZ PEOPLE: Marjorie Braund CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Richard Muirhead opens up his lake monster archives for the third time CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Dale Drinnon proposes a novel new identity for a little known Welsh cryptid ANIMAL WELFARE: Corinna tells a horrific tale. I strongly suggest that Naomi does not look at this story ANIMAL WELFARE: Lizzy Clancy with a slightly nicer tale of fat dogs than yesterday's story from Corinna NATURAL HISTORY: Exciting news from the Charity Livebearer Auction in Redditch CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
Saturday lunchtime and all's well. The weather is atrocious but I am going out later to see Marjorie Braund who is back at home with her family. Graham is still in the Isle of Man doing some fortean investigating and seeing his mother, Lizzy and Corinna are hard at work, and I am just about to play with my new toy (a WW2 battle simulator thingy). Biggles is helping me with interest. But I did the blogs first:
CFZ ARCHIVING PROJECT: Another trenche of BHM stuff ANIMAL WELFARE: Animal Obesity. Corinna reveals a shocking case study (and Jon has a fried breakfast) CFZ PEOPLE: Richard Freeman live on Internet Radio CONSERVATION: The latest Newsletter from the Center for Biological Diversity FORTEAN ZOOLOGY: Muirhead is back, and guess what. Even whilst ensconsed at a Northumberland Friary, he comes up with new snippets of fortean information. How does the boy do it? FORTEAN: Jon had no idea what he started yesterday when he commented on a spectacularly unpleasant news story from Peru. Today Alan F picks up the ball and runs with it CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
It is actually quite a jolly day here at the CFZ. The post was nice and undemanding, and the sun is shining. Scotch eggs for breakfast, and the chance to annoy everyone in the house by playing Hank Williams. What else could a man wish for?
CFZ: A snapshot of what is happening as we write ANIMAL RESCUE: This story involving baby ducks is posted by request of Jon's stepdaughter Olivia CONSERVATION: We have had a few adverse comments about our publicising the work of the Center for Biological Diversity, and in line with our policy of not censoring bloggocomments we have posted them. However, they seem pretty good folk to us and we shall continue to post what we get sent, like this appeal to save the US Clean Air Act FORTEAN: This story is so peculiar it HAS to be a foaftale ANIMAL RESCUE: Beth rescues a baby seal. Warning - contains scenes of a cute nature CFZ ARCHIVING PROJECT: Theo P raises an interesting point. Jon addresses it CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
I seriously dislike the winter gales here in Woolsery. It's not even the end of November and every night the wind rampages through the countryside like Graham and me in an off-license. Back in 1974 my parents had an extension built, and the builders were not terribly good. 35 years later bits fall off and bits leak, and every night when it blows like no-one's business I am convinced in my paranoid state that the roof will blow off. Hmmmm.
CFZ: Why this week is even weirder than usual CFZ ARCHIVING PROJECT: Part 12 of the BHM archives CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Part Two of Dale Drinnon's look at the chupacabra FRISWELL'S FREAKY FEATURES: Giant insects. Hmmm 10:38 and I think I've made the wrong decision another lifeless man with a strange incision I hope that insect doesn't see me he's not renowned for his courtesy I'm not searching for the ants invasion NATURAL HISTORY: Naomi follows up on yesterday's saga of bird heads and fire ants FORTEAN: We thought that Woolsery was weird. But cop a load of this! Devon villages have a lot to answer for CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
This week sees all change at the CFZ. Tomorrow, Graham goes to the Isle of Man for a week (to visit his mother), and Lizzy C comes down to Devon to visit us. In the meantime we had a noisy storm last night that kept me awake till all hours so I overslept. Goodness me, what an exciting life we have...
BLOGGO: Jon runs out of excuses CRYPTOZOOLOGY: In the first of two postings, Dale D looks at the chupacabra CRYPTOZOOLOGY: An Eastern cougar? CONSERVATION: The latest newsletter from the Center for Biological Diversity CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Lindsay with a Bat Creature Blog NATURAL HISTORY: Naomi has a question about ants that I am singularly unable to answer. So it's over to you (my money is on either Dr Dan or Retrieverman to come up with the goods) CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
The CFZ Machine turns you on. Well, it rumbles on at least. Oll and I are both off the sick list (though feeling a little wobbly), and Lizzy opp t'north is likewise back at work this afternoon. Corinna is proofing, Animals & Men #47 progresseth slowly, and Graham is doing arcane things with cement. Good ere innit?
CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Richard Muirhead opens his lake monster archives for the second time CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Dale Drinnon takes a look at two long-necked sea creatures from the cryptozoological canon FORTEAN: Richard Freeman and Colin Higgins recommend blogs for our delectation CONSERVATION: Saving the sea turtles CFZ: Why is our journal called Animals & Men? CRYPTOZOOLOGY: More claims about giant snakes in Peru from Mike and Greg Warnery CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
Everyone has gone out except for Corinna and Biggles and me. It is gloriously peaceful. However it won't last I am certain. Here are some blogs:
CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Who Nose? Dale D looks at multi-nostrilled eels CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Richard Muirhead opens his sea and lake monster archives ANIMAL RESCUE: Beth does it again CFZ PEOPLE: Lindsay Selby has good news on the felid front TEXAS BLUE DOG PROJECT: Scottie Westfall examines possible causes of canid hairlessness CFZ PEOPLE: Karen Gensheimer has been incredibly generous to us CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
I feel an afternoon of doughnuts, tea and `The Word` magazine coming on. The backlog will be addressed sooner rather than later. However, in the meantime, here are the updates. (Sorry they are late):
CFZ: Jon apologises for various bloggothings, and explains why it is late today CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Is this film of a baby bigfoot swinging through the trees? Could it be the "real deal"? Nah! CFZ: Maybe Corinna's horoscope earlier in the week was correct after all CRYPTOZOOLOGY: The final part of Neil's trilogy of articles on Chinese monster tales AMATEUR NATURALIST: More news on the charity fish auction in three weeks time CFZ MEDIA: Michael Moorcock writing for Dr Who? Cool! CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
Graham here, while Jon recovers from the difficulties of yesterday. See'Anarchist Social Workers' (below) for more. Meantime, I've done a patrol around, to check for storm damage. Some parts of south-west England had floods, and some houses are minus a roof this morning, but we've come through it ok, so far.
So, retreating indoors to do the site updates, I've put links to the following, on our website:
CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Dale Drinnon looks at humps and bumps CFZ: More adventures of the Anarchist Social Workers CRYPTOZOOLOGY writ large... ENDANGERED: Mexican gray wolf recovery program CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Lawrie Williams on the Bhutan Yonquis hunt methodology NATURAL HISTORY: Corinna's baby white rhino news CFZ ARCHIVING PROJECT: BHM - Part Eleven CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today

Cheers for now, from a still rather stormy England.

Friday the 13th: not a day I am fond of, and today seems like it ain't gonna break the pattern. Graham and I are looking after Noela this morning, and will try and visit Marjorie Braund this afternoon, so the `Old Lady Run` will take up most of the day. Keep yer fingers crossed:
CFZ: Why Graham and I will be unavailable today, plus a plea for computer help CRYPTOZOOLOGY/NATURAL HISTORY: Part five of Richard Muirhead's look at invertebrates of interest to forteans
NATURAL HISTORY: Apparently I bullied Colin Higgins out of his hermitlike state (as if I would do such a thing). Naturally I dispute this base slur on my morals, but am overjoyed that he is back - this time with a fascinating look at an unsung hero of eel-lore CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Lanette Baker gives us the heads-up on the Bhutanese yeti FRISWELL'S FREAKY FEATURES: In the first of two contributions this morning Alan F gives us a particularly macabre vintage ghost story FORTEAN: With admirable alliteration Alan Friswell brings us Frightening Facts about Friday the Firteenth CRYPTOZOOLOGY: A 55 foot snake in China? Blustery winds outside, but it is still dry enough for Graham to finish painting the window frames, and for me to have a steak sandwich. Wait a muinute, the latter has nothing to do with the weather, or indeed the bloggo. So you had better ignore me and look at the updates:
FORTEAN ZOOLOGY: Part four of Richard Muirhead's look at insects and other invertebrates of interest to forteans CFZ ANIMALS: For some reason Biggles has decided that he has kangaroo DNA CFZ PRESS: A sneak preview of Nick Molloy's new book WEIRD WEEKEND 2009: The videos are still trickling through. Here is Neil Arnold with his talk on zooform phenomena CFZ PEOPLE: Our collective sympathies go out to Lindsay Selby on the death of her pussycat `Baggins` CRYPTOZOOLOGY: New Bigfoot Book CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis brings us Yesterday's News Today
The 91st anniversary of the end of WW1 dawns greyly at the CFZ. It is a day that matters to me because both my grandfathers fought in the conflict. My paternal grandfather was fatally injured in Greece whilst serving in the Royal Horse Artilliary although he did not die of his injuries until the mid 1950s. My maternal grandfather (who I remember quite well) was a pilor on the Royal Flying Corps, and today I remember both of them.
I am up early today because of an appointment with the diabetic nurse (the nurse who deals with my diabetes, not a nurse who suffers from it as far as I know), who will puncture me, extract my blood, and warn me against the perils of doughnuts. I will then go to Morrison's, buy some doughnuts, and come home to get on with work. C'est la vie.
CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Dale looks at the mapinguari CRYPTOZOOLOGY: The third installment of Richard Muirhead's look at inverts of fortean interest FORTEAN ZOOLOGY: Corinna has another peculiar story about a dog with remarkable healing powers (unlike Biggles who has remarkable bin turning-out powers) CONSERVATION: California condors face a new threat CFZ PEOPLE: Colin Higgins told us a few weeks ago that he HAD to finish his current book before he could write more bloggostuff, but yesterday's bloggo inspired him to write us a letter CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Lanette is still watching over her gang of teenagers with an amused eye, as they juggle High School football and bigfoot hunting. In the meantime she gets caught up with nomenclature.. CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
Yesterday was a particularly nice day. I hope that today will be the same. I am annoying the whole house by playing country music on Spotify, and there is steak for lunch. Things don't get much better than this:
MUIRHEAD'S MYSTERIES: Part two of Richard's look at inverts that are interesting from a fortean point of view CFZ PEOPLE: Bloggo stalwart, and old friend of the CFZ Mike Hallowell has been ill for a while now. We have known the details but kept schtum, figuring that we should wait until Mike thought it was the right time to tell you. Now is the right time. It goes without saying that he is in our thoughts and prayers CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Neil Arnold asks "Who put the cat in Catford?" CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Lindsay with a tantalisingly unfinished story about a giant eel in Australia FORTEAN: With a second Australian story of the day, Lawrie Williams asks whether minmins are alive? FORTEAN ZOOLOGY: Examples of cross-species maternal instincts are always interested, but to our knowledge this is the first example involving an African hunting dog. This is where we get inundated with emails giving other examples of this. You wait and see... CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
Until five minutes ago, me and the orange cat were the only two mammals awake in the house. First Graham bustled through on the way to do errands in Bideford, then Corinna came in clutching coffee. Next Bigles will wake up, and finally it will be the turn of Oll. Then I shall probably go back to bed. But there are, indeed, blogs:
CFZ STUFF: A revolting pun, a country music reference, a picture of an empty bird feeder, and another of a misty garden. What is this all about? Jon'll tell ya TERATOLOGY: A series of rather beautiful photographs of albino moose in Wisconsin. (Here, by the way, Iam assuming that the plural of moose is also moose, rather than meese or mooses or something even more arcane) FORTEAN: Part Two of Neil Arnold's look at animal stories from Chinese Folklore NATURAL HISTORY: Extraordinary piccies of a mantis chowing down on a hummingbird CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Dale Drinnon on the Master Otter ANIMAL WELFARE: A Cow with a Robotic Rectum? Can such a thing be? Well, yes, apparently, and Robert S felt the understandable need to tell us about it. We would probably have done the same thing under his circumstances CFZ NEWS SERVICE: Oll Lewis with Yesterday's News Today
The autumn still seems to be doing its best not to be going away. The sun is still shining, my roses are still blooming, and yesterday - in one of the breaks in the rain - I saw a small brown butterfly (probably a speckled wood) but I didn't get close enough to see. But we all know that winter is around the corner and are doing our best to batten down hatches. Todays blogs include:
CRYPTOZOOLOGY: Stunning photographs of a sperm whale eating a giant squid NATURAL HISTORY: We always do our best to help fellow researchers. Today it is the turn of a Ukranian scientist who wants help identifying an Australian frog FORTEAN (well sort of): Corinna dreams of flying hedgehogs CONSERVATION: Lawrie Williams is one of the best new arrivals on the bloggo writer circle.
