CICLY-OAP, the Centre for Information on Coconut Lethal Yellowing and Other Associated Phytoplasma is intended to act as a clearing house for
information about lethal yellowing and similar diseases of coconuts
and other palms. Lethal yellowing is a phytoplasma disease and
susceptible coconut palms die within 3 to 6 months of the first
symptoms. Millions of coconut palms in the Caribbean and on the
Atlantic coasts of Central and South America are at risk because the
common variety is highly susceptible. Diseases with a phytoplasma
etiology also occur on coconut palms in West and East Africa.
Phytoplasma have been associated with coconut diseases in southeast
Asia, from where resistant varieties are also known. Visit the CICLY
