Description

The DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship, which originated in 1991, is now a fairly mature program with over 200 alumni and fellows. While the alumni have followed many career paths in academia, industry and government, they share many intellectual and social interests. However, to date, there has been no organized effort to facilitate interaction between the alumni once they leave the program and few opportunities for interactions between alumni and current fellows.

CSGF Net represents an effort to increase these interactions. Initially, group membership will be limited to DOE CSGF alumni and current fellows, In the future, membership can be expanded if the group wishes to do so. The group will be managed by the Krell Institute and moderated by Mayya Tokman.

While the topics that can be discussed in the group are not limited, examples include:

- information about job opportunities (e.g., alumni are encouraged to bring job openings at their workplace to the attention of the group and fellows are encouraged to post inquiries about
job opportunities)

- help organize social gatherings in areas/universities where several alumni and/or fellows work/study

- alumni or fellows who completed the practicum could assist the new fellows in choosing their practicum site by sharing information about their personal experiences at a lab/city or even with a particular researcher

- provide information on how to construct a useful Program of Study; discuss how courses outside of their subject area have proved useful in their careers

- discuss scientific questions, share information on research, help resolve issues that can sometimes be more easily solved by asking the right person than by spending 6 months reading papers.

We encourage you to join the group and become a member of CSGF Net. Please be prepared to hear from us in the near future. As a member you’ll have the opportunity of shaping this new communication tool.
