Congratulations Balaji.

Please share your prparation tips. Any other material than CBOK.

- Will old papers help?
- Do we need to focus all 10 chapters of CBOK?

[moderator's note: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/CSTE/files/ contains past

How to answer essay type questions? Keep a close watch on the clock, Write the key points only and move on to the next question, towards the end if you have time you can always come back to the ones you think you could elaborate a little more since you have time on hand.  I barely had 5 minutes left for both the essay types (set 2 and 4). Yes, attempt all the questions.  As for the objectives you could follow the same logic. attempt the ones you know and don't know and mark the ones you are not sure `mark for review'..... at the end you can select the option of reviewing only the ones that you have marked for review.  I had about 15 minutes for the first and 20 minutes for the second objectives left over .... that helped me review the ones that I did not know and was not sure of.

There will be 10 subjectives question in each paper and 75 minutes for them. If you write in detail you may not even attempt full paper.

Write in Points and to -the points. Attempt all questions. Use pencil to write the paper. Try to cover as many as relevant points(only). Frame your answer before writing .

Key to CSTE is your in-depth knowledge of subject. Read CBOK 2-3 times and underline important points and revise those.

Before attempting CSTE you should take 1-2 mock CSTE test, this will help you time management.

Hi Neha,

you are not required to answer in essay. Just put your thoughts in points and highlight the important points. thats more than enough and you will get full marks.

Hi All,

Could any one confirm how long is the duration for results announcement?

Now it is 7th week since I gave the exam and still the exam history section in
site has no information. But the message got updated to 10 week from 8 weeks.

They have kept on changing the message as initial it was 4 to 6 weeks, later it
got changed to 6 - 8 weeks and now it is 6 - 10 weeks.

It would be helpful to plan and mention in appraisals, if any one could confirm
on the results announcement duration.

Many Thanks to all in the group for the help as always

<start moderator's note>
I'm not sure where you have seen these response times. It was originally six to
ten weeks. The web site, http://www.softwarecertifications.org/qai_exam.htm now
indicates
"Prometric Examinations
"If you took your examination at a Prometric testing center, the estimated
timeframe in which you may receive your results is 6 to 10 weeks. At times
results may take longer than normal to be declared in your Portal account.

"Sponsored Site Examinations
"If you took your examination at a Sponsored testing center, the estimated
timeframe in which you may receive your results is 8 to 12 weeks. At times
results may take longer than normal to be declared in your Portal account."

For All type of questions you should use only pencil. If you use Pen it will be invalid. So USE ONLY PENCIL.

I usually suggest
1) work through Black Box Software Testing: A course by Cem Kaner & James Bach
http://www.testingeducation.org/BBST/

2) Read a book on the basics of software testing. I usually recommend
Lessons Learned in Software Testing
Cem Kaner, James Bach, Bret Pettichord
ISBN: 0471081124

Testing Computer Software
Cem Kaner, Hung Q Nguyen, Jack Falk
ISBN: 0471358460

Testing Applications on the Web (2nd Edition): Test Planning for Mobile and
Internet-Based Systems
Hung Nguyen, Robert Johnson, Michael Hackett
ISBN: 0471201006

all can be purchased through http://www.sqatester.com/bookstore
http://www.stickyminds.com/books.asp?Function=Search&topcat=SWTST lists and
reviews even more books and groups them into categories.

These sites offer general information on QA and Testing
http://www.stickyminds.com/
http://www.satisfice.com/
http://www.testing.com/
http://www.howtobreaksoftware.com/
http://www.softwaretestingwiki.com/

And http://en.wikipedia.org is a community program that helps define a lot of
testing terms. If you want to understand a concept or see a simple definition,
check there first.
