Mary gave a report on Convergence: 165 people attended the week-long
event in central VA near Charlottesville. Lots of praise from all
involved. 2 "actions" -- 6 people arrested at the local nuke -- for
sitting down on the floor of visitor center when it closed. Trespass
charges -- 3 seeking a full jury trial, 3 appealing a harsh sentence
handed down on guilty plea. Second "action" was a lock-down outside
Bank of America (prime funder of new coal projects) -- 2 arrested on
trespass charges.

Mary gave a report on new nuke financing: Constellation has disclosed
that their new nuke (closest to Washington DC) planned for the Calvert
Cliffs site will be 80% funded by the US Federal Finance bank (tax
dollars) guaranteed by US taxpayers... and the other 20% will come from
French (gov) import / export bank... so no private funding at all.

Update on ordinance -- our team is moving forward! YES!

Wed: Bette, Robbie, Mary to meet with Jerry Vehaun on Wed -- see the Mt
Express article -- and talk with him to bring him up to speed on the
ordinance proposal. Bette, John and Robbie will meet with Chief Grayson
in the near future.

Robbie and Bette Sept 17 -- meeting with the committee on planning and
economic development -- PED committee -- will be on Haywood St at the
planning department. Robbie shared an outline for the presentation...
