this message is going to CSNC "regulars" in bcc to protect against spam
-- please forward widely to friends and family -- it would be great to
have a BIG turn-out of support!

Mark your calendars! November 25 -- Asheville City Council to hear
proposed ordinance from Common Sense at the Nuclear Crossroads -- a
local campaign dedicated to raising awareness about existing nuclear
shipments of materials and wastes and the programs / industries that
cause them -- and also PREVENTION of an enormous increase in numbers and
"badness" of waste that could be travel through Western North Carolina
if so-called "recycling" of nuclear waste is approved and happens in
South Carolina.

The ordinance would make it a crime to bring irradiated fuel (also
called "spent" fuel) through the city. This is waste from making
electricity -- but if it were on the roads or the rails it would be the
property of the US Department of Energy -- federal shipments. Attached
is a set of "talking points" and the draft ordinance.

We hope you will attend the City Council meeting on November 25 at 5 pm
in City Hall in Asheville. Please consider inviting folks who care about
this issue to attend as well. There will be a public comment period
during the meeting. The proposal will be presented by Common Sense at
the Nuclear Crossroads folks...so your comments would be in addition to
the presentation.

Thanks -- be in touch if you have questions or ideas!
