Glad to help.

On parts, sometimes, there are dealers on eBay that will sell specific
parts. Do a search for something like "Canon parts". If you need
multiple parts, you might be best off buying a broken AE-1P on eBay,
Craigslist, shopgoodwill (or anywhere else) and using it for parts -
search for "Canon broken" or "Canon as-is" or "Canon repair". You end up
merging 2 or more broken cameras into one good one. I did that with 2
AL-1, Pellix, FX and FT. I then sold off the broken one on eBay also for
parts for someone else to strip. If it's a part that is interchangeable
with another camera in the line (ex: the grip on the AE-1P is the same
as that of the A-1), you can also look for parts for that camera.

Happy parts hunting!

Thank you very much for your help. I have all the files that I requested. Thank
you.

I have a question that might be silly, but is there a place were I can order
parts for my Canon AE-1 Program Body?

Thank you again.

I have one gathering dust if you want it. I didn't use it much after I got the
177A and 199A. I can throw some batteries in it to see if it still works. Or
if you want the 177A it isn't much bigger but it is more powerful and covers
more range (28mm with diffuser). I mostly just use the 199A since I got it
(probably 10 years ago...).

If you want something new, I'm pretty sure any modern Speedlite will work too so
you could get a Speedlite 200, 220, 270, 430, 580, anything should work. I use
both FD and EF/EOS equipment and the flashes are mostly interchangable though of
course you won't get all the fancy new features of modern Speedlites.

If you like it then try buying it again, you are familiar with it and it isn't
expensive.

I was unaware that Nikon made a FD/N adapter.
It's still not a valid excuse to buy a N digigizmo
but the option exists if I can borrow one.
It has the usual glass magnifying element,
X factor unknown. Hopefully Nikon used better glass
than other aftermarket ones.

I can use this in conjunction with a N/43rds on
my E-330. I'll try it with a Viv S1 90 macro as I expect
close-up use only.

I've found that closed cell foam beer coolers are the perfect size for most of
my old FD lenses. It's similar to neoprene. It is a tube with a circular bottom
glued in. I don't have cases for most of my lenses, so I don't use them as case
liners. The coolers are strong enough by themselves to act as "cases." No
cutting and fitting required, but for the two cases I have, upholstery foam is
the way to go.

I'm convinced that Canon cases would have used this kind of foam if it existed
then.

And if you look at the end of summer you can find them for as little as 25
cents.

Let me know what size lens case you are in need of, and I may have
them (in excellent condition, since I only use my 300mm 2.8L lens
case)

I have around 15 different lens cases, and you can get them cheap all
over Los Angeles (Samy's Camera, pawn/second hand shops, Craigslist)

Hope this helps,

I've been on the fence re: Micro 4/3'rds, but after hosting a panel on "New
Film, from Pitch to Platform" ("Other Venice Film Fest") and networking with
independant film people, and doing my own research....

I'm a 30 yr Canon user, and as a working Pro, my only Digital purchase
was a Canon Rebel XTI (w/ Sigma Lenses!) This is a big deal!

You've all heard about the video/still "merger", and how video (even just video
using stills) is being used by still photographers more than
ever..

Here's my own example:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhvzQi_T5Vo
(online promo for a Los Angeles Creative Club mixer @kramerstudiola.com)

Here's a PDN
link:http://www.pdnpulse.com/2009/08/red-one-vs-canon-5d-mark-ii-vs-panasonic-gh\

I'll be posting some stills, and HD video links sometime soon!
The web/youtube is loaded with references to Still/Video merging...

4500 stills were used to create this "music video":

Maybe I should write a song "I wanna use my old FD's"

Hi Lee (& other interested parties),

Trimming to size is usually no problem. Look to a small (one-two-man)
business. At least they'll do the first one, but like I said, the
foam's trimmed by them with kitchen shears / scissors, or an ordinary
domestic electric carving knife (so they might look at you funny if you
ask them to trim the second & subsequent inserts).

My local upholsterer just lets me look through his offcuts and use his
scissors / electric knife myself as long as I'm not actually in his
way. :-)

Hope you find someone similar.

Mike.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the tip! Have you found the furniture folks to be able/willing to
trim the foam on occasion?

Simply, I've got a single case for an FL 35mm lens (one of the 'leather' single
lens cases) which needs new foam top and bottom. To date, I've not found a
convenient or cost effective means to replace the foam. Not having an electric
carving knife, my options seem few ~ thusly, I was hoping that someone out there
happened to market replacement foam for all these old single lens cases.

Any other thoughts?

Many thanks!

I would check with your local camera club for referrals on a repair person that will charge a minimum to look at it and tell you what is wrong before they do anything to it. I paid $10.00 for him to look at it and then $75.00 to have my seals and mirror fixed and a good cleaning plus the battery door was broke. He said it should last me another 10 yrs or more before next overhaul. So I took my reserve in after and had it done as well.Good luck!

Hi Lee,

Upholstery foam - comes in a variety of thicknesses & density. Check
for a local furniture restorer / recoverer. The sizes we need for cases
are usually offcuts to them (& hence freebies). it cuts with precision
size & shape using an electric carving knife.

That's why my wide-angles have cases which also accommodate their BW-72
hoods... The LH-D11 is very useful in this regard with a little
"custom-foam" in the bottom.

Hope this helps,

Mike.

Group,

I've a few original Canon lens cases in need of new foam. Is there by a chance
a manufacturer out there that makes replacement foam inserts or a good
source/technique for doing this on my own?

Thanks!
