On June 8th. about 2:00 AM Eastern time (USA), I imaged Comet McNaught, with my
friend Mike, as it was passing in front of the well known, edge-on galaxy NGC
891. With the moon rising at 2:40 AM and the comet only 10 degrees above the
horizon (and partially blocked by the observatory roof) it was a real challenge
to get the shot ... and, not to mention fighting the clouds! We used a 12" SCT
with a SBIG ST9-E camera and 15 seconds subs.
Here's a very preliminary short stack of the comet crossing NGC 891. We hope
