Regards,

Hi all,
two comets tonight. When I went into 'Matrix Reloaded' it was pouring
down, when I emerged it was crystal clear and still...
P/Wild 4 (116P) 2003 May 23.52 UT: m1 = 11.8, Dia.= 1', DC = 5, 41cm
f4.5 Reflect (88x)…John Drummond, (Gisborne, New Zealand) [116P looks
like a bright smudge with a fairly knot-like condensed nucleas.
Comet's alt is 64* in the NW. Stellar LM =15.6, diffuse LM = 14.4
(scope).
53P (P/Van Biesbroeck) 2003 May 23.55 UT: m1 = 14.0, Dia.= 0'.5, DC =
6, 41cm f4.5 Reflect (166x)…John Drummond, (Gisborne, New Zealand)
[53P appears to have a condensed nucleas with a faint ghostly haze
around it. Comet's alt is 57* in the NW. Stellar LM =15.5, diffuse LM
= 14.3, (scope).]
Cheers
John D

In spite of incoming high cirrus, we were able to get a few faint comets
early this morning; they are posted as always at:
http://www.arksky.org/
under the Comet Patrol tables. Note that no trace of C/2003 H1 was visible
in three images to mag. 18.2 stellar; seems it may have faded rapidly;
nothing even close to predicted.

of this comet in 2003 despite brightening moist skies; very fine expanding
tail in PA 208 deg. traced for 1.7' length; coma continues highly compressed
and elongated]
