Hi Delia,
a good set of photos. It looks to me like its coughing up a pellet. birds of
prey do that regularly to get rid of fur, feathers and bones etc. If you look at
image 7 you can see the bill in gape, then in image 8 there is a black pellet on
the clifftop. The first time I watched a kingfisher do this I wondered what was
happening as I thought it was choking or going into some kind of spasm.
