I am at Custer on Friday morning, 3-23-07 and I have once again found
the south door open. This time it appears to have been crow-barred
open from the hinge side because the latch side is screwed shut with
plywood & I didn't check what else. As usual there isn't anything
obviously missing or vandalized. I thought of bolting it shut in a
professional manner but I don't have time & I don't know the whole
story here anyway. One thought I have is that if this were kids or a
burglar it would be a lot easier to go through a window and open the
other door. So I don't think it was done by a stranger, but, as of
now, any stranger can let themselves in to that part of the building
without tools or effort.
Maybe it's time to think about creating a foyer there by putting a
wall or partition across the back row of the auditorium. We could
then 'liberate' from the south door to the bathroom, or re-build the
old bathroom that is now a closet. Just a thought.
Regarding the library and possibly all other allegedly unwanted
Custer property, I'd like to form a discards conmmittee. Anybody who
wants something thrown out or sold, if in any doubt about legality or
value, could fill out a form and mail / submit it to the discards
committee which would discuss it and make a recomendation to the
board, if necessary under the rules of the committee, and then the
property might be disposed of with the assurance that quite a few
people agree with good reason to do so. This process would be
undertaken in any case where value is in dispute or believed in
excess of some minimum value.
I didn't see any books that I would discard myself as I glanced at
the shelves and into boxes. I know some have already been catalogued
& barcoded by Charlie's Angels (I wonder how long that name will
stick). At least I would like to have the proposed discards made
available to me to check before they are removed.
Good Skies to all,
