For those who might actually be reading this mail list, I read this off of Sky/Tel's weekly bulletin and found it pretty interesting.
 
 
One question came to my mind regarding forming the parabolic shape is how will this hold up to common vibration from whatever source you can imagine? I guess in an enclosed observatory with and an isolated mount this may not be problem but field conditions that amateurs typically endure might make the ferrofluid mirror impractical unless the magnetic field is strong enough to buffer any vibrations from stirring up the fluid.
