differences between J2000 and J-now (current) epochs   Message List

FYI, if you are utilizing a goto telescope and you have noticed that the goto performance of your scope has degraded. I can give you one possible answer as to why.
If your telescope, and most do, positions based on a J2000 pole orientation then you are seeing the effects presented by the differences between J2000 and J-now (current) epochs. Celestron is currently working on a firmware upgrade for my mount which will position based on a j-now epoch. If you have a Celestron telescope then you only need to upgrade your firmware once the update has been released. If you have a different make, I would suggest that you see if your telescope manufacturer has addressed this issue or not.

This reminds me of the Y2000 scare except this time I actually felt the effects. :-0
