yes, this solved ope part of "problem". now, picture is shown instead folder
icon, but in file collection is still standard icon. i know that is not
crucial, but for some files and/or folders picture is better than only name
to recognize.

thanks Leo!

regards!

You mean when you view a collection in thumbnails mode the folder.jpg for the
folders in the collection isn't used?

I don't see that; I get the folder.jpg used for folders in collections, in
thumbnail mode.

e.g. http://www.nudel.dsl.pipex.com/opus-colfolder.png (that's a collection)

You might need to clear your thumbnail cache, I guess.

Since a couple of people asked for it, you can now download a zip of my big
tutorial ("Getting to know Directory Opus"):

http://www.nudel.dopus.com/gtk_opus.zip

It's about 2.5 meg. Same contents as the web version so don't waste your
bandwidth if you don't want to read it again!

I haven't forgotten about other people's suggestions; just haven't had the
time/energy to do more work on it yet.

One thing I'm planning is to provide button .dcf (XML) button files so that you
can instantly add any of the examples to your toolbars without having to type
stuff in.

Right! In classic folder, thumb view is ok, but in file collection there is
no picture.

Check all the other formats under Preferences, Folders, Folder Formats. In
particular, there are Content Types ones which can kick in automatically, other
ones which can be saved for a specific path (and can also be applied to all
subdirectories), and the final set which act as defaults for differnt types of
path (local drive, network drive, etc.)

Also remember that when a format matches and is applied it can choose to allow
further formats to be matched and add their columns in. There's an option on the
last tab of the format dialog which controls this. (This option is only visible
if you edit the format via Preferences, and not there when using Folder Options
directly from a lister.)

The most important format is the one named Custom since this will be used if no
other format matches a path. That's the first one to check is configured
correctly.

Hi

I doubt over the fact that MS Word will be able to open the resulting file.

If I'm right, DOpus merging function is just a simple binary merging, thus
the the result is no more compliant to the proprietary MS Word .doc format
which need specific file header for instance.

Unfortunately I can't test it right now (I don't have a Dopus copy on this
computer - what a shame ! ;-)

Has anyone tried Opus on a 64 bit system?

XP64 does not support 32 bit shell extensions, but I don't know if that is

Good night DOpus users,

is it possible to assign specific buttons and or toolbars for specific folders

I mean, for listers containing audio-files i would like to have different
buttons, then for listers with pictures or documents.

Not at the moment, although it has been acknowledged as a good idea for the
future.

Right now the best you can do is make a button and/or hotkey which toggles your
extra toolbar(s). This is described in my tutorial, here:

http://www.pretentiousname.com/opus/cb2.html#b_filter

If you use the LOCAL argument then the toolbar will only be added to the current
lister, rather than all listers.

i have silly question. what i'm looking for:
i have few pull-down menus with names of friends, companies. from
there i'm selecting their folder, with their stored e-mails,
documents, pictures, catalogs.... now i want to add additional tree
button for open specific file.

for example, i have folder "ivan", in that folder is "ivan-catalog.ctf".
now i want button to direct open that file/catalog. but i have no idea
how.

i tried with go, "%1", select, but all i get is open container folder.

please, help!

my second question for today.

i have mp3 files on hard disk. from time to time, i take hour or two
to make some order with files. most of time, i have same steps and
same rutines. one of them is:
first-make two directories called cd 1, and cd 2
second-select all files in source directory those name start with 1
(101,102..120)
third-move selected files in folder cd 1

next is all the same, but only for files with 2 (201, 202...222).

now. i have button for make folders, button for slecting files, but i
don't know how to make one button for all: first-make dir. than select
all matching files, and at least move those files in apropriate folder.

nearest that i made is to selected files move in second lister-from
source to dest.
but, i'm used to work in one lister.

is there any possibility to make this work?

thanks in advance!

If the file extension .ctf is a registered file type (meaning if you double
click on it, it will open in the correct program) then you can simply go to that
ivan folder, then put DOpus in customize mode, and drag the ivan-catalog.ctf
file to any toolbar.

On the other hand if you want to open ivan-catalog.ctf with a specific program,
say for example the Windows Notepad, you could have a button command similar to
this:

"C:\windows\Notepad.exe" "c:\documents and settings\ivan\ivan-catalog.ctf"

This command will do it all in a single click. (No need to select files, by the
way.)

Copy MOVE FILE 1* TO ".\CD 1"
Copy MOVE FILE 2* TO ".\CD 2"

Nice Leo. I was thinking of a different approach but yours is better.

However here's a side note to viking. You might want to keep in mind that Leo's
button will also move any subfolders (and of course everything in them) whose
names begin with 1 or 2. So if you have subfolders previously created in the
active lister whose names start with numbers, you may have a problem. If not,
Leo's button should do the job nicely for you.

yes, You're right. but, i make little adjustment to button - instead MOVE
FILE 1* TO, i added "1*.mp3". after that, i put some other files (pictures,
subfolders, text files), all with 1-something and 2-something names, and
only mp3 files are selected, moved, exactly as i want.

but, thanks for tip!

Subject: YIKES, I Can't Get Opus To Run!

I am having the strangest problem this week with dopus, and am ready
to tear my hair out, having tried so many fixes thus far. Hopefully
someone here can give a hand.

I have had version 8 for awhile now, and am using the most recent
version, 8.1.0.6 . About a week ago, seemingly out of nowhere, I
cannot get dopus to run. I click on a short cut for it, and can see
the outline of a lister for a split second, and then it's gone. I
can also see icons moving around in the task bar, making room for
the dopus light bulb, and then that stops too. No error prompt of
any sort. I try running the program directly from the dopus.exe, but
that gets the same result. Dopus is not running in task manager when
this happens.

At first I think, ok, some conflict with one thing or another
recently installed on my machine. I start uninstalling any recently
acquired software, clean up the registry of any remnants, and try
again. Same thing, dopus won't run.

I then tried uninstalling dopus, and attempting to clean out any
remnants of the program in the registry. I also deleted any folders
related to dopus, and tried to do as close to a clean install as I
could. After re-installing, dopus seems to be ok again, I can start
it up and do not notice any problem with it. BUT, as soon as I re-
boot the computer, the same thing starts all over again. After the
re-boot, I could not open up dopus even once. I note, I am seeing no
other problems on my machine while this is going on, it just seems
limited to dopus.

I then decided ok, let me try pulling out an image of my partition
done about ten days ago, that was made using Acronis True Image, and
I will re-do my entire C disk which contains my OS, which in this
case is Win XP Pro. Dopus works fine after my main partition is re-
written from the image, but yet again, as soon as I perform a re-
boot, the same thing....can't start dopus, can't get it to run.

I came by the forums here to see if I could find anything. I did
locate one message (#5477) where someone was having a similar
sounding problem. I tried some fixes that were suggested to that
poster--re-naming the "Viewers" file in the dopus directory, and
also attempting to run dopus from a command prompt. Neither of those
suggestions worked, same result as before.

I've tried re-installing Dopus a few times since this began, and the
result is always the same--it works fine until I re-boot the
machine. Given all the other stuff I've tried it seems clear that
something is being written on a re-boot that is blocking dopus from
running.

Any ideas from the experienced folks here on what that might be, and
where I might find it? Any suggestions will be welcomed. It would
take me a few weeks to re-do my drive from scratch, and given the
above I'm not yet convinced that the result, at least in terms of
dopus, would be any different.

Thanks, and sorry if I went on a bit, I wanted to attempt to be
clear.

Hello DOpus users,

i studied Leo's great tutorial and under "Diffing Tools" you can see a
menu with some MD5 options.

Any idea what they do, and how i could accomplish a button, that
creates MD5-sums for selected files and copies filenames with those to
the clipboard or into a log-file?

Hello DOpus users,

in Leo's tutorial under "Flat Mode" there is a menu item 'Toggle
Location Co...' - more cannot be read... Does anybody know how to make
such a button, that switches the columns?
